Who on this forum Knows how to do more then just put gas in there R

I've spent my time on the forums for the past six years and slowly find my self leaving the whole scene because of the drama and endless conversations on the sr/gtir forums Who here actually knows how to do work on there R ? I dont just mean oil changes and tire rotations , I'm not a mechanic by trade but when it comes to these sr powered cars I've tought my self how to work on them and now theres basically nothing I have to take it to the shop for besides an alignment. Just want to hear some history On other forum members I'm getting sick of reading posts about people asking how to change a headlight bulb :P

I personally have not had a mechanic work on a single one of my cars.  Ever.  The only time it goes into the shop is for e-test and alignment.  (I don't consider that work because the don't take anything off or put anything on).

There are some of us out there.

Keep in mind that not everyone knows everything about cars when they are born, like you.

I remember the first time someone showed me how to make an "intake" by opening up my airbox to get that sweet throaty roar at WOT.

After that my bank account started shrinking and hasn't stopped....

i used to do more work on my car(s), then i got older and lazier and as such have more disposable income

then i started to get pains in strange places that won't go away for weeks at a time as i got older

now i pay a mechanic buddy to do the harder dirtier work n leave the easy stuff to myself like putting gas in

i also don't have a garage at the current place im living, so that really puts a damper on things, if i can't get it done in 2hrs or less, i pay someone to do it while i enjoy my new bottle of scotch

Well I am a diesel mechanic/engine specialist, I've rebuilt: V-twins to V12's, rotaries, and everything in between ranging from 150cc to 16.0L... I`m used to dealing with inline 6`s (diesel) that are far more complex, precise and sensitive than the SR20 so when it came to my tear down of the engine, trans. and everything in between it was pretty straight forward... I`d call myself qualified.

Nxpartssource - I know what you mean, I avoided this forum for years unless I needed specific info on something and was too lazy to find it for myself lol. Gtir modifiers forum has the true guru`s on the Gtir mainly because a lot of those guys have been around the block and have done a lot of `trial and error` to get where they are... I`ve just been hovering around that forum for years sopping up their info and ideas so I don`t make the same mistakes with my build hahaha.

I much prefer a gas station where they fill my car with gas. If you can find one, it's usually almost the same price as self-serve and I just get to sit in my car. Mind you, I get very irritated if they bang the cap against the paint, slop gas, or simply don't treat my car the way I expect them too. And it hasn't been in a shop car wash since about 93, wash by hand only. As to more than that, I surround myself with great people. I'll be up to my arms in grease as I've been involved in engine swaps and full engine rebuilds, but I am not ready to tackle some of those projects without an expert around. Re-wiring an SR20 - just not my cup of tea. Almost anything else I'll consider tackling in my garage/driveway but it hasn't always been that way!

nxpartssource - I like working on my car when I have the time and inspiration. I usually just troll this site and others as well. I try to keep my posts down unless inspired to share info. I think I take the forums like anything else on the net and that's 90% BS and 10% great info. So when you want to know something and actually find it, it feels great!..... after you've plowed through all the crap and useless posts about changing light bulbs that is.

If it's worth knowing it's worth the effort and if you can't find it, well figure it out yourself as there's so much unknown out there that hasn't been posted on the net.

I'm with you on this one NXpartsource, I don't post much cause I rarely have questions, all the info is out there on one forum or another. The only time I have to bring the car to a shop is for an alignment or get bearings pressed, the rest is done at home in my single garage. My strong suit is electronics and wiring, I freaking love complicate projects involving creating wiring harness. I take pride in my work like no other tech can and that satisfaction can't be beat. I also love all tuning aspects and have done my tuning on all boosted cars albeit never with no base map to being with. Having completely gutted and parted out a pulsar was a really good experience and I got the know pretty much every little annoying engineering design flaws causing headaches. We all have to start somewhere, 10 years ago I knew barely anything about mechanics...it was all about starting to tackle small jobs one at a time and relying on the help/knowledge of friends in the business. Some understand it, some want to understand it and some never will.

The R takes fuel...I thought it was powered by witchcraft and angry bees...but on a serious note where i live there isnt a tech available who has showed even the slightest bit of knowledge concerning the R, they could build hondas for days which is cool i guess if you are in to that sort of lifestyle. So did it all myself. I've also dealt with skylines, evo's, old camaro's, Lancia's, Alto works RSR's, Mini trucks, and the list goes on...But getting info off this site has been very valuable and is better than consulting the bones.

I know it doesn't look like I'm doing much, but on my Saturdays off, I like to work on my personal vehicles.  Whether it's just a driveline service, engine oil change, or anything really.  I've been with Nissan/Infiniti for about 5 years, and of the Japanese vehicle makes, they're not the easiest to work on; but they all need servicing.

I can wield a set of spanners lol, although I'm more an engineer than a mechanic and I'm certainly not a great machinist or fabricator. I have build and modified engines in the past and done some mapping. However with my Pulsar due to the high level of machining work required I will more than likely have the engine built for me to my design/speciifcation. I will then be performing the majority of assembley myself with my wife's cousin doing the wiring loom for me (he wires up Tornado's for BAE so I'd be foolish not to use his skills). Mapping I think I will have the initial mapping done by a local specialist but then I may tweek it myself later.

I pay a mechanic to do basic shit on my daily driver like wheel bearings ect.   Things like timing belts and water pumps I do my self b/c I'm cheap and those are expensive jobs.   I work on my r my self.  It's a toy so I don't pay a mechanic to fix it ;)

Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive
