It's Official ~! New GTiR

I just traded my 1993 Mazda 323 GTR for a 1991 GTiR!

It needs a little bodywork, new paint job and a few interior pieces but I love it.

Factory sunroof car, imported from Japan to New Zealand to the US over 10 years ago. I have no clue whats done to the drivetrain internally. From what I can see it has a fmic, externally gated 20g turbo, turbo back exhaust, coil overs, electronic boost controller and a few other things.

I'll post up some better pictures and info tomorrow, this is just a quick pic I took on the way back. I have the other hood vents, just need to bolt them down.

Haven't cleaned it up at all, this is how I got it.

Thanks! I need to re-adjust the hood so its on straight and pop out the little dings on the passenger side... It's alive tho, fired it up today, running a little rough from bad gas and crappy plugs. Gonna have to get a new distributor cap, it has a good amount of pitting... Sunroof and all the electronics work awesome... I wish I could figure whats done to the motor/trans internally without taking them apart! lol Clutch pedal feels like my old Evo 8 did with an ACT... The previous owner said everything was built overseas before he purchased the car but he never got paperwork... He's an older gentleman in his 70's... I took the cusco intake off to check for shaft play and figure out what brand turbo it was. It's a Mitsubishi Td06 20g with a 5zigen turbo back... He said the car has between 420-450hp... Either way I'm very happy with the car, I wanted to purchase it 5 years ago when I saw it but the timing was wrong... I paid $4,300 USD for the bone stock 323 GTR(114km) and $40 for a spare hood and rear bumper and did a straight trade for the GTiR :)

Do you have pictures of the gtr? My brother has one and i love those cars. Got to drive it home some from bc when he bought it. Its identical to the gti-r so they look sweet sitting next to eachother in the driveway.

There's a couple pictures of the GTR is this thread http://www.canadagtir.com/forum/off-topic/new-forum

It was the French model so it had the cheap cloth interior.

That's awesome you guys have rival cars sitting in the driveway, should snap some pictures...

LHD? Now im confused, how come it actually says 323 on it? My brothers car is a Mazda Familia GTR. Yes it looks the exact same, has the same hood and bumpers, but its a familia. The japanese rhd version. Is it kind of like the gti-r, in that, they are mostly called pulsar gti-r, but there as such things and sunny gti-r in certain countries in europe? If thats the case, i'd say you traded away an insanely rare car.

Pretty much like the Sunny & Pulsar... It's a Mazda 323 GTR, they made 200 for France and numbered them... They came with the GTX cloth interior Vs. the leather w.red piping... LHD 190hp instead of the Familia 210hp... I've spent hours searching the internet and I've only been able to track down about 10 other numbered cars... I really liked the styling and loved the interior of the Familia's, but I only purchased the car at auction because no one else knew what it was and the price was too good to pass up... Being from Europe it did have some surface rust underneath...

The Pulsar came from the same place the 323 GTR did... About 4 years ago I found an ad online searching for GTiR's in the States... Come to find about 20 minutes away from where I live there was a HUGE barn filled with Skyline's, Pulsar's, Familia's etc... So I went and checked all the cars out but couldn't agree on a price for a black GTiR he had... Randomly this August I was on the search again for a GTiR in the States and after hours I stumbled across a link to an Auction Company website on a forum in California and come to find out all those cars I saw years ago were getting auctioned off in September at No Reserve.

I showed up a day before all the cars were suppose to be auctioned off to check them out again... The next day I went back all Japanese imported cars were pulled from the auction except for the 323 gtr, r32 gts4 shell and an 88 Familia GTX... I was able to purchase a spare hood w.vents and rear bumper w.lip from some idiot for $40(which belonged to a Familia that was pulled)... After emailing back n forth for weeks I was finally able to make a straight trade.

Thats pretty cool that someone had so many of them stored away in hiding. I'll get pictures of my car and my brothers car sometime this summer if they are out of storage at the same time. He has a ford escort with a built familia gtr motor swapped into it too. I think i like it just as much as his familia.

Thanks, it's been sitting for a long time... Someone at one point in time put a lot of time and money into it while it was overseas.... I pulled up the carpet yesterday to make sure it wasn't two cars welded together.... Thankfully it isn't... But when I did that I realized 4 holes drilled into the floorboards, so someone removed the roll cage and most the gauges before it was imported...

I've been trying to get the car running with what little time I have... Drained all the gas, new ngk plugs, new cap n rotor... It will run on starting fluid, or if you let the car sit it will fire the first time you crank it then die out after a couple seconds... Everytime you crank the car over it sounds and feels like its going to fire right up and come to life... It has spark and fuel... Next step is to check fuel pressure, timing & comp test... Any other suggestions?
