ouch.. 1200 AUD is like 1300ish cdn now if u buy at the bank..
http://www.google.ca/finance?q=CADAUD
damn that aud exchange has gone to poopee..

an fyi
be prepared to pay some slight duty and shipping was another 125$
and they only take wire transfers of $.. so add another 20-30$ in transfer fees.

all in was around 1250$ cdn back when the shipped price was 1225 AUD in March 2010 which was about 1160 cdn

This was the original group buy

you can buy a wilwood any time... these are made to order, and only on a group basis.

I'm interested if I can get the money together.

I was wondering though... isn't the front differential in the GTiR the same as a 1993-2001 Altimas? If so, could we therefore get NISMO LSD's for less than $1300? I was going to go to the junk yard next spring to get an Altima Diff so I could compare them and confirm this suspicion.

oh yah if you're planning on replacing the bearing on the diff, expect a 1-2.5 month wait.. so order one early 3844056E00

i didn't replace mine, just reused the old one, but just an fyi

oil seal 3314256E00 (drivers side) for the axle

be careful splitting the transfer case apart, its in 3 pieces, only remove the cap on the far right, if u split the center and left piece, from what i've read you'll have trouble getting it to seal again.

you can do the install with engine in.

you'll need a press to get the bearing off and back on to the lsd.

enjoy...

Nismo Altima LSD is clutch pack style, the Modena is a helical gear driven LSD.

I wonder if a Spec-V 6spd transmission helical diff might fit???

how would this work?

I think you are forgetting that FWD vehicles have ring gears on their front wheel differentials.  Our centre diff is in the front diff location for all nissan FWD vehicles.  Then remember that our centre diff has 2 shafts that connect to the transfercase and the axle goes right through the centre diff in the TRANSMISSION to connect to the front differential in the TRANSFERCASE.  There is no way a FWD LSD will work in our AWD cars without serious modification if at all.

it might fit, but are you willing to drop 800 usd, plus shipping to find out? and another 4-8hrs of install time to find out it doesnt work?

So is this Modena front LSD is a helical type? I understand the center diff is helical, but wouldn't it be better for the front differential to be a VLSD or Clutch type? I dont really know which is better I'm just wondering.

I wouldn't be spending $800 right away, I would be spending $80 at the auto wreckers and yes a lot of my time to find out if it fits. I've been reading through some forums and I think the Altima diff has a good chance of working. I think the Spec-V and even an SE-R diff may be the same too, but harder to find.

I'm always into finding what parts are common for the GTiR. I have a 240sx for the summer so I will do my testing once I don't need the GTiR. Unfortunately by that time this group buy offer may have expired. So, I might be in for this group buy depending on the time frame and how much money I have available to me.

The modena front lsd is helical.  No the centre diff is not helical it's VLSD.  No the front diff is not better as a VLSD (crap) or clutch type(understeer unless you know how to set one up properly).

Look at a picture of an Altima diff.  Then look at a picture of our front diff.  Someone please please pretty please tell me how that is ever going to work.

Like AtomicGTiR if this can happen after the Holidays this would work out in favour for me as well. I am interested So please keep me updated to the status of this potential group buy.

As for the Nismo LSD from the Altima it has already been done (check for sale thread "Brand New Nismo Front LSD for Sale" for pics)

VLSD use Viscous fluid to lock up and do wear down but also don't perform the best.
Clutch type are good for racing but need proper set up for your driving style and will wear out clutches and need replacement eventually.

Helical Diffs - don't need any more maintenance then a regular open diff... ie : oil changes and it constantly adjusts pending on torque load
VLSD - Need special fluid replacement inside the unit itself (which means taking it out again) - Must slip first to heat up but also doesn't release the quickest.
Clutch type - Need to be tuned (removed and set-up each time till right) then will need a change of clutches eventually... another removal. Can be set-up to lock in either direction and with varied torque load to lock the diff. Downside = lots of maintenance to get it to an ideal set-up or just regular maintenance alone.

If you read that thread I'm pretty sure he says that there is a mistake and that diff doesn't even work in the altima.

Anyone interested in this group buy aiming for the middle of January next year please add your name to the list.  If you are not seriously thinking about a commitment of $1200 then please don't put your name up or it will skew our numbers and there is a target for the group buy to be successful.

These are rare pieces that are only produced once every few years when there is enough interest.

Hey Lynx,

re-read the thread and yeah guess the LSD's he has are for the GTI-R (or AWD transfercase - Bluebird) and not the Altima. So going to find one out of an Altima isn't going to work (sorry nick). So buy this one being offered or buy that other Nismo clutch type LSD. (personally I like the Helical gear type better for street driving) So......

The helical are pretty much better in every way for a street driven, or track car.  (unless you have the time to spend testing a setting up a front clutched unit).  Their only downfall is off road rally driving.  And even then they will be light years better than an open diff.

There is no maintenance, no special oil to buy, just drop in, and enjoy having an actual full time AWD car.

Still going ahead if everyone is in.  Lets shoot for Friday the 13th.

Everyone confirm that they are willing to spend the cash.  I'll get the info for payment.  To save on Shipping, I'll look into the Canadian units getting shipped to me in London On.  I will then send out the units to the respective people.  I suspect we will be able to save some coin on shipping that way.

Ok this is it.  Got word back from Frank.  He does not require payment until the units are ready to go.  That said, I refuse to be the idiot left standing if some people back out.

If you are in for sure the cost is 1200 AUD plus shipping.  IF YOU ARE IN FOR SURE then pm me your shipping address and I will forward this to Frank.  He is going to check pricing on if it would be cheaper to drop ship the Canadian ones or just ship direct.

I propose a modest deposit by all members interested.  I would be willing to hold the money until payment is due, and then forward it to Frank.  Or we could insist that Frank take a deposit immediately.

If there are 7 of us and we all pitch 500 up front that's 3500.  When payment is due each person would only owe Frank 700 bucks plus shipping.  If anyone has a problem with that let me know your concerns.  I feel that this is the best way to ensure people are serious and wont back out last minute.  I think it is great that Frank is willing to go ahead without seeing a dime, but I have seen too many of these fall apart last minute to gamble that everyone is serious or not.

PM me your addresses asap so we can get this started.

Here is the latest:

"Hi Steve,

Ok now for some shipping info for you.  I have got some rough quotes for you, but I would need the exact weights and measures from the boys to get a true quote but this will give you an indication on if you want to ship all Canadian ones together or individually.

To ship to Canada each unit separately would be approx. $150aud
To ship all 4 units to one address in Canada would be approximately $450 so you would save $37.50 each person.
You can let the Australian boys know that they have 2 options, 1/ Registered post $30.00 or 2/ express post $55"

Obviously they will have a more accurate quote for us when the units are measured and weighed.

likely cheaper to ship direct to your place.. it'll be 38$ anyways to ship somethign that heavy on canadapost
plus there's no chance of escaping duties when it comes in one big package
and u'll have the collect for duty from each person which would be annoying
