Rear Brake Upgrade

I'm pretty sure I've found a solution to the rears:

Keep stock ebrake cables

18% more clamping force
Larger diameter rotor
Thicker Rotor
No hubcentric spacer

Under 15" wheels.

I need to test fit and make a prototype. Does anyone have a set, or a single rear hub and knuckle I can borrow/buy. I don't care about condition.

I've got a spare rear hub and knuckle.  It's a little far away, but if you get desperate you can borrow it.

I need a set or at least one rear hub before I can start working on this. I'll keep my eyes open locally. I DD my car so I makes it difficult to test fit something unless I have a spare.

Like I said in my Front BBK thread however, there was little intrest in the front kit, which is what does most of the braking. The rears are just a balance thing, and I can't see that many more people being interested in just the rears. It wouldn't make sense to upgrade just the rear brakes, and on the street it could be very dangerous.

On top of that a master cylinder will be needed to upgrade both front and rear or you will end up with a brake pedal that is an on off switch.

That's not an upgrade, it's exactly the same as stock, only you get to use a maxima rotor which is great.

Benmack I've sent you a pm As an update I have totally changed tack on this. I was looking at a Rear Mr2 Caliper FRONT altima rotors (22mm) Uprated Master Custom ebrake cables Research has shown that doing a massive upgrade to the rear has far more drawbacks than benefits and is actually totally unnessesary.  I'm working on a very cheap rear upgrade that will just help to balance out the larger fronts.  It will use the g20 caliper and a maxima rear rotor.  This will allow me to keep my factory master cyl which is very cost effective and cuts down on time and headache for rerouting lines to a LHD uprated master. The devil with upgrading the rear brakes is that the better you brake, the less rear brake you need.  A bigger rear rotor will allow for better heat dissapation in the rear, and give the rears just a tad more braking force to balance out the mosters I put on the front. And the best part?  Still under 15's ;)

there's an even cheaper way to do this

1995 maxima 5x114 rear 278mm /aka 10.94" rotor redrilled
RAYBESTOS Part # 96511
or 2004 spec V brembo rear redrilled same rotor size except 4x114 , slightly safer on the redrill pattern
CENTRIC Part # 12842082R
CENTRIC Part # 12842082L
RAYBESTOS Part # 980308
CENTRIC Part # 12042082

30-100$ per rotor(large variation due to if you buy slotted/powerslot, branded ,jobberetc) plus cost of redrilling

maxima rear caliper brackets, spaces the oem caliper back to the centerline of the car 12mm and further out out 10mm for the 20mm larger disk 40-80$ for caliper brackets
A-1 CARDONE Part # 141506  DORMAN Part # 619503

you can reuse the oem caliper, or get a rebuilt g20

remove, trim, or bend the heatshield out of the way

you can do it for roughly 150-225$ depending on where u get your parts, taxes, shipping etc

i have been running this setup for the last year with 11" rear powerslot's from a spec-v brembo, maxima caliper brackets, hawk hps, and oem rear caliper.

car is definitely more composed, less dive on braking and improves braking feel significantly.
mine is paired with the fastbrakes 11" 4 piston wilwood kit, which uses prelude sr-v 11" rotors
front pads are wilwood bp20's

both clear my 15x7 enkei's and 15x6.5 advan rg knockoffs

I want new calipers all around as well.  I like the uprated OE stuff since my Pulsar is just my summer DD with maybe a few auto x's.  Have EBC redstuff up front which helped but looking to replace my stock stuff since it is getting a little worn out.

Seriously though WHY THE ***************** ARE YOU NOT POSTING THIS INFO BEFOREHAND!

lol  I've been searching brake parts for something compatible, and it took me an hour to come up with that.  What a waste of time when you already had the solution.  Anyway I'm glad for confirmation that It works though, I was just guessing.  It was a good guess, but still a guess and it sucks throwing money away on new parts you can't use.

Lol thanks but I didn't really do anything, it's all nick on this one.  I just ordered 2 sets of similar brake parts from maxima, spec v, g20 etc, and I'll see if it works well with my front kit.  If it does I might be able to package a total brake upgrade for 15" rims that can keep all your other factory parts like your master and ebrake.

It's hard to be the pioneer and it's true, not many are willing to put their money down to try something else. Many, many thanks for doing the testing and more importantly, share it with the community.

Got my rear brakes done:

Thanks nick This works great.  I used 2004 spec v rear rotors, must get the ones with brembo package.  I also used 2004 spec v rear caliper brakets with infinity g20 (p10 chassis) calipers.  The maxima stuff is exactly the same as the spec v stuff in fuction, but just looks slightly different.

I have a brand new set of maxima rear rotors, and maxima rear brackets which is all you need to do this upgrade.  You can re use everything else.

The rotors need to be re drilled which you can do yourself if you have a drill and half a brain.

I will sell the whole thing for 60 bucks plus shipping.  Thats 2 rotors and 2 caliper brackets for 60 bucks.

rockauto.com if you don't mind maying hefty shipping/brokerage or picking them up across the border.

Otherwise buy them locally at carquest/napa/altrom/crappy tire/ etc etc etc

Sorry for my ignorance but you can buy OEM Nissan parts at these places? I was under the impression you had to go to a dealership to get OEM parts. I'll pick some up when I am in Carolina in the spring. I use Autopartsway.ca when I need generic parts. They are Canadian and ship really fast/cheap.

OEM parts must be bought from nissan.  hence OEM....  Unless they are rebuild parts.  Which in that case they would still technically not be OEM.

I've tried Nick/Lynx's upgrade and it fails.

The maxima rotors fit once they are re-drilled, but for all I know that is because they are a hub centric rotor.

The maxima/sentra brackets DO NOT FIT UNDER THE STOCK GTIR WHEELS. I tightened the first wheel on a little bit before I figured this one out... and double checked the other side . . . and voila NO FIT.

I am going to go home and double check part numbers for the caliper brackets and see which ones they are, but they don't look like the ones in Lynx's picture.

Th fitment is close, but it does NOT fit. The wheels jam on the caliper bracket before you can tighten the lug nuts finger tight.

genius did u read, never said it would fit under 14" wheels, neither does any 11" brake kit for the front

my post explicitly states it fits under 15x7 and 15x6.5 wheels that clear the fastbrakes 11" fronts

first post from lynx says 15" wheels, maybe your reading fails
