My First GTI-R.

Hello. A few months back I purchased a Black 1992 GTI-R with a blown bottom end (#3 piston melted). It's now in the process of getting put back together and thought I would introduct myself with my current build. Looking through old threads I beleive this car used to belong to jonalaps.

Bought the car for $1,200 with the motor pulled and disassembled. It also came with the following goodies:

Mint Garrett  GT2871R A/R .60
Tial QR BOV
Manual Wastegate bleed valve
Exedy Stage 2 Clutch
AFR + Boost Gauge
BC Racing Coilovers

NEW stuff for build:

Block has been rebored and crank has been machined
CP 86.5mm pistons
ACL Rod and Main Bearings
Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel
Konig White ET30 15x7.5 +20
OEM Gasket Kit

I attached some photos of how it sits currently. The motor has been assembled to shortblock and should be ready to start moving forward this weekend. Shooting to have the car running within a week, maybe 2.

Spent a good portion of my weekend getting this car together, made some good progress. Motor is in and mostly ready to go. Few vacuum lines left, the rad, and change the tranny oil. Hopefully will be firing it up after work.

success, it fired up first try. now I have a few little bugs to work out. I dont think the turbo is getting oil, I feel the send line is plugged. next the rad leaks.

Will a sentra rad work on the gtir?

Sentra/NX2000 B13 Radiator equipped for an SR20DE engine should.  B14 200SX SE-R might too. Koyo lists 1 aluminum rad that apparently fits all of the above; the Koyo 53 mm racing radiator will fit, but 1 fan will have to be omitted.  If you go aftermarket OEM replacement, it may come with an Automatic Trans. cooler and  radiator hose adaptors;the GA16DE engines have smaller radiator inlets and outlets than the SR.  There is also the possiblity of an N15 Pulsar/Lucino with a 25mm core but I haven't tried it personally.

use a mishimoto meant for sr20 b13 se-r .. its cheap and works well.

ie. http://www.sr20-forum.com/mazworx/24999-aluminum-radiators-silicone-radiator-hose-kits.html

i'm sure you can search around on the internet for an even better price.

Finally got it all together and driveable last night. Boost is down to 7psi while breaking it in, and will probably run close to 12psi soon. Ended up using a 95 sentra rad. Bolts up great and is much thicker than stock rad, rad is meant for smaller hoses though so I had to adapt. Alignment was way off too, 6 degrees of toe in the front :O. Will follow up with some photos soon :D

You used a rad meant for a ga16de. I recommend that you change it for a rad meant for a sr20de because it will restrict your coolant flow and you could blow your engine by overheating.

I use this one : mmrad-sen91sr

Yeah. It's true, brakes are just ok. And they are brand new too. Otherwise car is great and haven't had 1 problem. Here's some photos. Pardon the dirty engine bay.

Did a little photoshoot last weekend and had to post the shots up. They turned out really good considering the paint SUCKS on my car. Since have dropped in a Kakimoto exhaust and a 3" dp. Been running pretty good at 14psi with the 2871r. Thinking of upgrading the head next with some cams and springs/etc. Not sure if the stock ecu, injectors, and maf can handle much more though!

WOW awesome looking shots dude good work....just as a personal preference....can't stand the valve cover colour,  and the inercooler will likely work better if it has the cover on it to seal against the rubber on the hood.

Thats really nitpicking though it looks siiiilk.  Love those rims.

You got me on the valve cover Lynx. It never really caught my eye either, all I had lying around during the rebuild tho. Still beats the beat up old paint beneath. Going to change it soon, might go with the tacky paint splatter trend.

wish I had the intercooler seal, unfortunately it never came with the car :( wheels are just cheap konig's too, but I get compliments all the time. 15x7.5's grip like maad on our cars IMO.

thanks 4 the comments
