Windshield replacement

I haven't seen this discussed yet. Has anyone had to replace a windshield on a GTi-R? If so, what did you use and who did you get it through? I'm going to need one pretty soon and am looking for a place to source one.

I heard a windshield g20 is fitting ... that would be the same chassis ... but the question remains whether it is true ...sorry for my english..

the g20 in my opinion is not the same chassis

you will see that it shares it with other sunny n14's and not p10's.

here is the p10

Its not legal to replace a front glass by Lexan. Plus lexan scratch easily and give more sun reflects.

I can tell you where there is a windshield on a part car here in Vancouver...

It was done through ICBC cause I had a small chip in my windshield so they replaced the whole thing so I only paid the $300 deductable. They did write down all the prices for everything but I cant find my receipt

Here is an idea, is their enough of us that is willing to have a North America manufacturing co. to make a small run. I would be willing to put my .02 in. I would like at least 2 and I'm sure most would concur also. I mean I know their are a lot of custom hot rods out here that had some glass custom cut for their rides also.

40600 yen,
487$ approx cdn
487 x 1.06 = 518 plus duty *1.06 at the very least
518 x 1.05 = 543 gst
518 * 1.07 = 573 (varies) pst

573$ approximately shipped

nissan does it for a little over 700 with insurance.  so its really up to u if you are willing to risk 573$ down the tube no insurance, or pay the hefty 700$ price tag from nissan.  also you have to worry if the glass is as1 or as2 marked.

I work at Fedex, and i can tell you that i wouldnt ship with them unless you package it super super well. Although i work at Fedex ground, and that would probably shipped with air, or freight.

celm: its 2 days from japan to here, and its a few days locally in japan.

nick: Nissan here doesnt want to order one for me as he says that if there's a crack and I dont take it he's stuck with it. So I prefer ordering it from Japan at my own expense vs ordering it from another Nissan that's a few hour drive from here and who will ship it to me anyways. The glass is AS1.

peg: it will be carefully packaged, and it ships by fedex intl economy. 2 days from Saitama to my door in Quebec. it will be in a windshield box, inside a bigger box with packaging material and other items. I know its risky, but there's no other option for me.

what i mean is that its a special order from japan which takes up to 5 weeks, and if it comes in broken they have to scrap it, order another one and lose money in the end, and they are not interested. I have dealt with this guy a few times already and he's cool. But he's the parts manager and knows his stuff too. The local dealership I used to deal with would not even want to order parts I needed even though I supplied the part numbers. He just said "I'm not listed for this part" and there was no way to get it. So I now order all my stuff through the other Nissan which is about 3h drive from here.

some dealers here seem dismissive or even a bit antagonistic to jdm and have an absolutely "can't get there from here" attitude and like i made a big mistake on jdm; found some help @ one place with a direction to a jdm importer; at another met a partsman jdm enthusiast, but his computer wouldn't help.
My best success for the small amount of parts required thus far was an import car jobber place where price was good and parts sourced out effectively from oem or non. Best start asking with a part number or something else it fits onto.
Still wondering here on the basis of rumours around for some years that the g20/p10 infinity y-10 wagon chassis glass works in rnn14.
edit: NOT
only n14 glass fits like nick says. period. net rumors contrary are just that.

I took a rough measurement of the US B13 nissan sentra and found that the windshield is about 1" taller, I'm sure there is a hotrod shop out there that can perform the mod to make them fit into the pulsar gti-r

ya, saw something by diy guy on cutting windshields in link below, tips etc, would be nice to find a local service if g20 just needed at trim of bottom corners or something like. Even at cost of $150 est per windshield it would still be cheaper. I'll be waiting til the yearly cycle of road debris clears up after spring.
http://www.cadvision.com/blanchas/54pontiac/windshield.html
tip from above: if measuring try trace template from the inside resting surface of the glass to match because of thickness and curvature.

Just called for a quote to ztune burnaby. they'll check price, avail and indicate via email.

Reason i'm pursuing this is: again dealership attitude to jdm; cost; lots of rocks where i must go; there is some evidence that the non-stock glass can be made to fit as yet unverified. Nobody here confirms trying. Collectively it would save the group thousands of dollars for other improvements.
I'll report back what ztune says. Have asked for price break quote if possible for multiple group delivery to cities.

ztune have fast and nissan will simply give them an updated number
morrey nissan on willingdon or abbotsford nissan can both get the parts as i've sourced parts through both locations before

im guessing ztune goes through morrey b/c they're literally down the road.

ill see if i can pull up my old bill from years back and the color of my tint, but i think i have the brown glass.

here's the quote from ztune, there is one left in Canada [see below]:
[sorry cant read dat pic attached yet]
_____________from ztune quote on windshield prices:

I have included a picture of the Nissan fast with all the windsheild parts. I have included everything in the picture exept for #72617K. That looks like the glue to install, you would't need that unless you want to install it you'r self. I can include that if you would like. Also I can take any parts off that you think you may not need.

All the parts in the diagram retail for $1211.91 and you'r price is $969.35 plus tax and shipping. Depending how many people you can get to order I can work out a better price.

There is only 1 windsheild in canada right now. Part# 72714, 72812J, 72811 & 72852 are all on back order and 2-4 weeks away from Nissan. Once the one widnsheild is sold the rest will be 2-4 weeks away.
Let me know if you would like me to add or take any parts off that you think you might not need.

Mike further emails:
"If you wanted to get people to email me their JDM Vin # I can look into aftermarket Windshields as well. I have a local shop that can source them. That might be a cheaper option, he just requires the JDM Vin before he will quote parts. That way he makes sure he is quoting on the right part."
__________

So, hopefully more info appearing later for additional options.

what markings do people have on their windshields? [other than cracks like mine?] codes and sources??

P10 G20 windshield will not work as I measured the glass yesterday on my 1992 g20 and its way too wide on the bottom. The B13 sentra are a lot closer in dimension, last I measured it was only 1" wider at the top measuring from the top 2" down and across, I will try it out and have a glass company cut it down for the pulsar- its only $80 for the glass so if it breaks its not going to kill me!
