Tire Input?
Hey there: Just looking for input on tires that you may have or have tested. I'm currently in the market for tires that will serve double duty of just casual driving and the weekend Auto-X. Currently looking at the Kuhmo XS, Falken RT-615s, Hankook R-S3, BFG KD, Dunlop Z1 Star specs, and open to other posabilities. I'm looking for mostly outright dry handling, and a lower cost. The Rims the would be on are 15s. Thanks very much. (If this topic has already been posted I appologize, I used the search engine and didnt come up with anything similar)

Last year I ran Kumho STP's for daily and weekend autox. Ran on 15's as well. Did ok, but the 320 treadwear was noticeable on the autox. So far this season I've been running the Federal 595evo's. At 280 treadwear, they did better on the autox than the STP's, but showed their weakness once the temps got up there as they got greasy when hot. I'm going to keep them as my daily tire as they work real well for the money on the street. Looking to run the 615K's on 16" rims for autox, the tall sidewalls of the 15" tires is currently limiting my car on the track.

falken rt615's here... not the rt615k's which are apparently better
nice n sticky till they get hot then they get greasy, and are terrible in the wet (until i got the modena lsd, it was like deathwish entering a fast corner), braking feel and performance is semi sucky
kumho xs only tried on the street
borrow a buddy's set of rims just to try, mushy and wasn't a big fan of the dry grip in comparison to the rt615's
my falken's are done this year im just into the wear bars and will be going with bridgestone re11's next
have heard good things about rs3's and z1 star specs.. but since i need wet traction thats why im going with re11's
Thanks alot guys really apreciate it! Yeah I would consider going for the RE-11s if they were abit cheeper. Do most of you guys get your Tires from Tire Rack and Discout Tires?

costco.ca is quite competitve with the re11, i'd wait till costco has another bridgestone deal.. they had one in march for 70$ off but sold out of the 205/50/15 too quickly. this brought the price within 40$ of tirerack pricing.
i buy from discount tire and tire rack kuz i can pick up cross the border, else it negates the savings with the shipping costs.
Last year I ran 205 50 15 Toyo R1Rs. I think they're a great tire - good grip until I corded them. Two drivers, 16 competition/lapping days.
This year I'm running Toyo R1Rs again - but 225 45 15. I buy from Talon Tire - they ship anywhere and I'm very pleased with their service.
Costco has the RE11 for about $4/tire less than 1010tires right now. The Falkens look like they'd last a little longer being a higher treadwear than the RE11 and the KU36 (Ecsta XS). Back a few years I was really impressed by the Advan AD07's I ran on my GTR. Worth the extra $50 per tire for the AD08's over the KU36 or RE11's? I don't know, but if they are close or better than the AD07's, then they'd be a good choice too.

I had really good luck with the star specs for a Street/Track tire. Wore very well and kept up in both wet and hot conditions. Much better than my 615's that notoriously go off quick but are less expensive.
Depending how much you daily drive/extreme you want to go on the street you could also consider Toyo R888's or Nitto NT-01's
My R888's are my favorite tire so far (except for full slicks) but my car is mostly for Auto-x and not daily driving.
Tire Rack and Discount Tire are both very good. I have also had a luck with some Ebay suppliers who have kept the value low and helped with the horrendous UPS + Fedex Brokerage.
I tried the Falken and now on XS and I enjoy the XS more for AutoX, but they seem to be wearing down faster... both tires for around $100 from Tire Rack or Discout Tires picked up in Odensburgh NY.
I ran the following for tires at autocross over the past two year:
Dunlop Star Spec Z1 - 205-50-16
Falken RT-615k 205-40-16
The Dunlop are definitely the stickiest street tire followed closely by the RE-11. However, I found that the 50 profile on the 16 was too tall and opted for a 40 profile last year. The new Falken RT-615k is very close to the Star Spec grip wise but not as good in the rain.
It's too bad the Dunlops are only available in 195-55-15 if you are looking at a set of 15" because it is a clear winner at autocross and lapping events.
Hankook RS-3s are awesome and a very capable tire but the very low thread wear makes them less appealing unless you drive very little.
Stay away from the BF KDWs, the get so hard and greasy.
I've found the Star specs in 205 50 15 actually. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=Direzza+Sport+Z1+Star+Spec&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=05VR5Z1S... Atomic, is there an Auto-X this Sunday at Scotiabank? If so I'll stop by and see what people are running, Right now i'm really leaning towards the Z1's. My dad also runs the KDWs on this Spec-V and he loves them but also has said they can get greasy. Thanks everyone for the help!

There's an Autocross at Scotia Bank Place Lot 9 Sunday June 12 and another the following weekend on June 18th. Drop by anytime past 10am to see us in action. I'll be hanging with the timing team (Red Tent) or by my car (#72) if you want to find me.
I'll be at the Auto-X tommorow. I'll be wearing a GTi-R shirt. Thanks again for all the help guys!
