Suspension / Coilovers
What are some good aftermarket suspension / coilover options. what are good places in the US / Canada to buy them ? Looks like Tien superstreet Coilovers are the most popular, whats a good place to get em ?

modform has me convinced to go with the K-sports. I had JIC's on order, but after 6+ month of waiting, I cancelled. So, JIC US might have a set in stock!! I had Tien's on my skyline, they were the Control Pro's, real nice ride and EDFC compatible...
I went from a 530WHP GTR to a 220HP GTi-R, but I'm still smiling....

i'd go for bc racing coilovers , but if u want something that lasts 5 years. i'd use koni yellow's from a sentra spec v, with ground controls and overkill engineering top mounted top hats for extra travel. more money, more work, but will definitely last much longer.
+1 for the BC coilovers.
Vizi0n knows a seller who has them for a good price in Canada.

bc coils very nice ride imo
13.2 @ 109mph w/ 2.2 60ft //////// garrett 60-1 @18psi, custom Weirtech header, fmic, 720cc injectors, 4" intake, mongoose exhaust, BC coilovers, AEM water/methanol kit, bully stage 4 clutch(highly recommended grips very hard yet engages like a stock clutch!!), and hoping to save up for a straight-cut gearset!!!! Ben
well if anyone wants to get together to do a group buy, i'm in for march of next year. just in time for first autox races of the year
in for march of next year also! I can contact the guy in quebec, or maybe somebody else wants to who is more local to them?

BC basic are really "street" Coilovers and I contacted several of their reps who provided me with little to no information. I was really not impressed with them or from what I read about their product - basic street coilover providing little advantage over springs/shocks.
I am running the new versions of the K-Sport version RR (which is their race coilover). I spoke with both their sales department and their tech. department several times and they answered every question I had. They also addressed the fact that their old coilvers, like Tein, JIC, and Apexi, had issues when they first came out but have been resolved over time and engineering developments. The latest version had been redesigned and has been great for me so far.
The version RR also comes with specially valved inserts designed to match your spring rate. My rates are 9KG front and 8KG rear.(don't drive these on the street)
Talk to Jeff at MajorMods - He was offering a great introductory group by rate on the SR20 forum and said he would offer the same here if anyone was interested.
I also spoke to some professional racers who were running these in their gt cars - including a retailer for Moton who told me that so far they were bomb proof. http://www.madmacsracing.com/products.htm
The car on his home page has been running them for two years full race time.
They work great for me and so far I would highly recommend them.
The biggest problem with the earlier street ksports, which may have changed, is their qa. Their coilovers have been dynoed with huge variation in valving between each individual strut. They also suffer from lack of travel, so in your case with very stiff rates they are just fine. But on the street they'd be toast within a few months.
the op also mentioned he's looking for something that will last 5 years, so im assuming he wants something for the street. the k sports have very short travel and to run a softer rate than their advertised of 7 and 5 rear, they'd be blown in months.
the op should better define what he's going to use it for.
If you're willing to spend the money, koni's, ground controls, and custom top hats.
D2 Racing Coilovers [Taiwan] were on my gtir as bought, having been purchased by the previous owner relatively cheap thru Rallynuts in the UK, shipped here and installed. They seem much like the early KS reports in many respects .
I had the D2 racing coilovers _removed_ after their being on the car for only about a year (seen below) ; they were failing** and ill suited to my normal street driving ride preference. The ride on choppy city streets with the 'D2 racing' setup was overly harsh for the most part and worst in the cold weather.
On smooth asphalt on a warm day though the D2 racing setup was really outstanding, but otherwise nowhere near the comfort level or suitability for the variety of regular driving conditions compared to the used NISMO suspension [obtained previously here on this forum] that replaced it.
**The D2 racing suspension setup wore out 2 sets of front shocks in my gtir's case within a year's use. [A second _non-D2_ set of adjustable front shocks installed by the PO to replace the as supplied original D2 shocks was itself fast failing too under normal street driving as you may see from wet oil leakage pictured below. ] The rear shocks seem dry yet but likely might be on the way out too.
4 sale - used 'd2 racing' suspension. needs new shocks. selling as is. missing one adjusting spanner that hopefully is common to obtain. Some trimming of top of the car's front strut towers for small adjusting bolts may be required.
NOTE: *Not Recommended For Street Use* unless you have the springs changed out!
.... open to any reasonable offers here ....
[fwiw: front d2 racing strut weight = 10 lb., & rear's = 12 lb. Total 45 lbs shipping wt. est.]
[EDIT: SOLD for one hundred bucks as is! after only a years use. Anyone buying coilovers consider where the car will be driven and that the sharpies are trying to get your money. i half figure somebody bought mine to get me to shut up on posting how crappy coilovers work out to be in street driving. i got a set of bc's but the inverted style (type rm) with pillow ball mounts front and rear. got them shipped out of england for less than the br style if i bought them here...they look good quality but i havent fitted them yet.
I have a set of Cusco coil overs,,, decent street ride to the track good balance between tarmac and dirt... (super rally cross) all and all great stuff.
Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive
How much you want for them
do you have a link and cost?

I had Tein Driving Master Type HA on the car when I've bought it and it was a hell of a harsh ride! About no travel at all, and stiff like a 2x4. They were about 70kg altogether.
Swapped for BC Racing (which are also lighter than the Tein), which can be as hard if I click them to a harder setting (4-8 clicks), but can also be soft enough for street if I get them to 15 or so clicks.
The fact that you can adjust the shock whole length without modifying the spring pre-load is a good point too.
Overall I prefer my BC Racing over my Tein so far. But my 2nd R might get some Tein SuperSteet... or maybe another set of BC? Who knows. So far it has KYB AGX and 2 are leaking oil.
Is everyone using GTiR specific suspension, or stuff from a b13 chassis? Does it all swap between chassis? Also someone ^^^ mentioned spec v? That would be b15 would it not?
Mine were (Tein) and are (BC Racing) GTI-R specific.
you can use koni inserts up front from a b15 spec V, externally adjustable, and you can gain an inch of travel by shortening the end. google sr20forum CSK or custom shortened koni's. you can also put the spec v's in the rear housing as well.
the problem with the b13/b14/b15/n14/n15 suspension design is lack of travel. if you lower it, you need to regain that travel. you can do this via ground control camber/castor plates, using the koni inserts and shortening them, or the overkillengineering tophats as well.
you also need a stiff enough spring to keep the shock from bottoming.
stock travel is 3inch if you drop it 2inches, you're left with only 1inch of travel, meaning you're bouncing off the bumpstops and destroying your shocks. if you do the custom shortened koni route, you regain an inch of travel. if you get a stiff enough spring you can stay off the bumpstops.
if you autox/road race/ or know how to setup suspension, u know u want to maximize travel and stay off the bumpstops.
If you are dealing with B13 VS. RNN14 set-ups, the major difference you will encounter will be the relocation of the rear sway-bar mount. This is not applicable with K-Sport as you have adjustable rear mounts (this is coming in very hand for running 235/40/17's in the stock wheel wells as it allows for more clearance against the coilover).
You should never run anything that is not matched as it can completely offset the balance of your car...I still cannot believe that people put lowering springs on and keep their stock shocks. There cars bounce all over the road until their original length shocks bottom out and explode. Also make a decision about what you want to do with your car - if it is predominantly a daily driver don't expect high spring rate coilovers to be fun to drive regardless of them being adjustable. Proper alignment post install is also fundamental. Your alignment should reflect your choice of daily driver vs. track (mild toe out in the rear has increased my auto-x performance significantly but is also really dangerous if you are not careful)
From what I hear the BC make a good daily driving suspension for pretty cheap. I found their customer service to be really, really bad. KSport Version 2 has been a great product for me. As well you can specify spring rates with matched dampers on the K-Sport Gen 2 coilovers. There tech. department was really helpful in sorting out what I needed for my car and addressing any concerns I had. IMO - K-Sport now make an exceptional bolt-on coilover with variability and replacement support for a reasonable price. (most reviews I have found of the version 2's are really positive).
Some arguments on the relevance of the K-Sport Shock dynos (Motons also show variance in their dampers - They are several thousand dollars): http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=295960&page=4

Is this march group buy still up for the sets of BCs ???
My friend who is selling me the pulsar has tein in it and told me about some high travel rally ones he wants to get. because i drove it and its fucking harsh i want something with good travel thats great for dirt roads. as well as a daily street driver.
any ideas? something i missed?
