Help with Front Axles
Does anyone know if the front R axles interchange with anything other vehicles? I don't think ordering a new set from Japan is an option being that they're fairly heavy...
I started hearing a noise when I turn under load I think it's something axle related.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks!!
John

is it a clicking noise? what sort of noise is it?
RNN14
hard to describe accurately but its more like a droaning/pulsing, gets 2-3 times louder when i turn
i suspected a bad wheel bearing first but i checked them and they feel fine.
hmm. I have similar noises as you. Front left side? mine doesn't drone while driving straight, but on turning it is noticeable. you checked the bearings?
RNN14
clicking or knocking during a turn is usually cv joint, you sure your wheel isn't rubbing an inner liner or the inner fender?
I know mine were rubbing sometimes while on full steering lock. But the passenger side wheel drones while turning at any degree, just not full lock.

sounds like you're describing how mind sounded 4 or 5 months ago.. might wanna check the cv boot for rips now just in case! both of mine are pretty destroyed.
nissan wants $800 per side for the shafts and i called 8 or 10 japanese auto parts places yesterday and nobody can help me
try yahoo auctions japan and pm feast auto on this board, he can buy it from there and ship to you.
probably 250$ all in for both used.
yea adam has already sent me a link to a set of used ones, it was about $175 for a pair that looked a bit sketchy.. plus ship and all that jazz
I think I have a potential solution though - I have an account with a company who sells remanufactured drive shafts/half shafts and I spoke to them yesterday, they said it shouldn't be a problem to rebuild these for me so I'll be pulling them out sometime soon and bringing them to this company.
Should be around $200 to get it done and the parts will be new which is nice. Who knows if the ebay ones are any better than what I've already got, right?
Thanks for the help all, I appreciate it as always.
rebuilding the axles are no problem, they should last for another 70 k miles if done properly, buying a axle from the dealer is waaay too expensive
yeah i got them rebuilt and they look brand new again
cheap too, $180 bucks all in for both
Does anyone know if there is a cross reference of these axles or are they unique to the AR only just like the windshield haha, oh the joys of owning a jdm car in america LOL...
I did notice the drivers side outer axles is similar to the G20 outer axle but the inner driver side axle resemble something from a 280ZX turbo rear axle joint or possibly from a 300zx TT, Q45 or hicas 240sx???
the axles themselves are gti-r only, but the outer joints at the end are the same as B13 Sentra / NX2000 If you hear a droning noise its more likely your wheel bearing

where did you get them rebuilt? Ive been looking for a place for a while
Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive

John

hey jammin, did they replace the cv boots too? if so, can you ask them what the part number was? I have a torn outer boot on my front driveshaft, and would rather buy a boot locally than having to wait for one from japan.
alternatively, Does anybody know if the cv boot from any other car will fit on the front outer cv joint on the gtir?

It's literally just a guy at a workbench in a little shithole shop that someone else owns - your best bet is to just call him and hopefully he will remember what he used on my car but I think that would be unlikely (it was quite some time ago now and he never even saw my car so I don't think he will even remember doing the job for me)
He has everything in stock so he might be able to give you a good guess as to what it would be.
He did do a complete refurbishing of the axle, sandblast, clips, boots, joints and paint and he did it fast and cheap.
outer boot kit from nissan is: 39241-63Y25
or if youre getting it from a car parts store say its for a 91-94 g20

I got a clicking sound coming from the drivers side axle upon turning right and I knew that it would be cv joint but upon checking it out I found the inner cv axle boot ripped? I thoought for sure it was the outer axle but its the inner.
I pulled the boot off the inner axle and found that it has wear on the face where the balls roll on but everything feels tight so not sure if that is the noise I was hearing but can't think of anything else like bearing as it only happens when I turn right. I guess I would be looking for a good used drivers axle if anyone has one for sale, pm me if you have one-waiting on 90gtir but has yet to respond back in the last 2 weeks now

Just called and he still does them. Gonna pull mine out next week probably and get them done. I am in Barrie if anyone wants me to take theirs in as well. Anyone know off hand the part # for the inner oil seal? Also do you guys bother using oil seal installation tool?
Only Chuck Norris can own a GTi-R. The GTi-R owns everybody else.
Actually decided to wait until the winter to get them rebuilt. Drove down to New CV Tech yesterday and they had them ready today! Guy even knew they were GTi-R axles when I brought them in lol. Not only did they replace the boots, bearings, and clips, but they sandblasted and painted everything and gave me new axle nuts. They honestly look brand new. Was only $160 for both. Guys were super nice too, I highly recommend and when I pull out the rear axles next winter I know where I'll be taking them.
