GTIr front engine mount

GTIr front engine mount

What's up guys. I put my car on the lift today to sketch a custum skidplate when I noticed the flimsy front engine mount. That thing sure looked like a serious POS. I removed it just for the fun of it and.. my Gawd...lookk at that!! The rubber insert will pop out at the slighest push. So....I tossed it away and mde my own with a 87A urethane bushing. :D Quite the difference! It vibrates a tad more at idle but it's a night and day difference when lauching hard from a stop. You can also feel the engine much more connected with a more direct torque transfer simply by blipping the throttle. So I was wondering if anybody would be interested in such a thing. I could probably make more of these if these was any interest. Price is still not calculated but should be around $120.00

there's two of those actually, 1 in the rear as well. they're just torque mounts, i've got the nismo ones, but not a huge improvement over anything.

i'm surprised they don't vibrate the car more

Thanks for the kind words. You can come over to see the mount in person anytime, you're welcome.

I never seen the Nismo mounts up close and personal and have no clue what they look like. Got any pictures of the set?

nice im in antigua i dont mind you making some for me as those parts are hard to get in this area

Posted: Fri, 12/05/2008 - 12:31pm

the nismo I have are like hockey puck in the standard metal mount. there is no hollow space in the rubber part. I think you could use standard mount to modifie and fill the whole inside of the rubber part with resin, it would most likely be smoother than the nismo but have lot less flex than stock. I seen people do that before with fairly good results and minimum expense.

stil wating

To follow up on that thread.. Yesterday I made a skid plate for the R... That's how it looks installed Well folks, believe it or not, no more than 12 hrs later, the darn thing saved my arse. We got an ice storm lately. The trucks are pooring salt and sand on the road like there is no tomorrow. Look what I ran into this morning. It sounded like the car was about to break apart. I never seen my GF so scared to death (no counting when she saw me nude for the first time) It crushed the 3/16" plate inward by about 1/2".

nice piece! why not extend the sides of the frount out to cover the area's under the front bumper, with thinner lighter metal to give it some of the effectiveness of an undertray.

Posted: Tue, 12/30/2008 - 1:44pm

Because that would add to the cost and weight of the plate. That is 3/16" construction.

wats the price on one of those

I replaced the stock rear torque mount this afternoon by something more adequate to my driving style :) 87A durometer bushings with full stainless steel construction.

What is perdantic? Excuse me but me primary language is french so I may not be aware of every subtilities you guys have. I had actually no clue that you were refering to aluminum by mentionning alloy. I think the cheapest way and also for the sake of simplicity, it is best to build them out of stainless. This is a very strong and long-lasting material that doesn't require paint or anything. I can sell them and offer a lifetime warranty. I will drop the previous model as it was just too much expensive to produce.

+1
I'm in for a group buy, need to get rid of that massive engine sway.

There are so many R forums, I don'T know how and where start a group buy for you guys.

safe bet would be the GTiROC. www.gtiroc.com/forums

There aren't as many retards on there as on the modifiers club, but not everybody can get accepted into the oz site for some reason. There are a few others as well, but I'd think that the oc would be the best place to start. PM a moderator on that forum to see if its alright.

What sort of price would you be looking at? which mount would you be making?

I'd be making the stainless mounts. Which can be used in pair to replace the stock torque dampers and are cheaper to produce than the aluminum one. I tried to register on GTIROC using my that username, which is know worlwide as I'm always using it no matter the forum. My account was deleted shortly thereafter. There may have been some vendors that didn't not want me there.

Most forums want some type of compensation before allowing advertising product(s).

It's a shame because your product looks solid and I have not seen anyone out there come up with a solution to the engine movement problem.

Obviously most of us will want a pair of these, otherwise the problem will remain present. jardamuth: what type of quantity are you looking for before mass producing these to offer a small discount?

I will gladly ship to Ireland mate. Just out of curiosity, could I see a picture of your DP manifold?

I registered on the GTIROC forum simply to give my input on the Pulsar from hell thread. This is about a video I put up on youtube. I would be looking for at least 5 pairs before I could offer any decent discount. Otherwise, they will be produced at the piece and sold as advertised.

any update on this? Jardamuth, what improvements do you notice with this mount in? What is the cost on a single front mount?

They're available through our website. we've already sold a few to local customers. The pulsar is quite popular in the area. The engine is much tighter with the damper, of course. Also, there will be a tad more vibrations at idle, but no change once you are moving. The main difference is especially noticeable when you launch the car hard from a stop or when you change gears.

Not here! (as long as it's on topic and benefits the community)

I'm converting my nx2000 to awd and I made this which bolts to my radiator support (existing holes from crossmember/dog bone) and to the engine to replace the stock Gti-r front mount.

where did you get your bushings and tubing from to make these?
