Power Window motor

Hi I was wondering if you guys know of any crossovers with the GTIR's power window motors with other cars? I've been having the hardest time finding one. And everyone I've talked to about getting one used from overseas never seem to reply to me after I ask them to send it over to Canada cause of the crazy shipping prices. And the price of the motors are definately not worth buying either $300 a piece and I need both right and left side. Thanks

Benmack has one! He had one ready to sell to me but I found one locally so I saved on shipping. Pm him!

Hey I'm curios, is yours completely dead, or does the motor turn but not drive the window up? Theres a rubber gear inside of the motor unit that is used as a weak point and breaks. Let me know because I've got a simple fix

On the motor unit there's a metal cap that is around 2.5-3 inches in diameter(dont know exactly how big, but you'll know, it's gold in color.) you have to use a scredriver to bend it around the edges and get it off. inside there's a rubber gear that connects the plastic gear around it to the shaft that turns the window mechanism. Break all of that out and cut or grind all of the rubber stuck to the metal shaft. So now there's absoluteley no rubber left. What your going to do is fill the inside of the plastic gear with a really tough two part epoxy to marry the plastic gear to the metal shaft. I used a stuff called pc11 (if i'm not mistaken) it's basically like jb weld but in a double sided film canister type container and works very well. It has to be like a strong metal type epoxy or you'll be redoing it in a month like I did. The most important part is to score the metal shaft or grind on it so the epoxy has a surface to adhere to. So in otherwords your just making a new rubber gear but stronger. I know these are rubber from the factory for a reason (so they'll break instead of anything thing else) but I've had no problems after 8 months. Not a bad Idea to oil your cables and grease the teeth on the plastic gear as a preventative maintenence. Sorry I dont have pictures, and let me know if theres anything I can explain further.

can you remove the motor unit separate from everything else? IE glass carrier, track, cable, etc?

Yes you can, But the window, track and cables all need to come out. after that there's just one bolt holding the motor unit to the cable setup. once you get in there you'll see it's all super simple, just hard to explain.

Yeah the window only goes down but you can hear it trying to roll it up when you hold the button, so it's probably the same problem that you just explained thanks a lot for the quick fix I'll try it out when I have time to do so.
