Power Window Fix
When rolling up your power windows, you can hear the motor working but the window does not go up,
there is a high chance that the rubber gear in the power window or plastic sheave in the window
regulator has failed. This seems to be a common problem with GtiR’s as it is the case with my friends GtiR.
It took me awhile but i finally decided to finish writing a guide to fixing this problem.
please contact me if you have any comments or suggestions about the article, or if you find errors in this guide.
I also want to thank all those who have helped me on this forum, and special thanks to mbsilvia

when you use google docs, you need to publish the article, otherwise you'll get heaps of emails from gmail that people from here are asking for permission to get access to the writeup.
When my window wouldn't roll up, it was the plastic part in the carrier itself that broke away, the motor and the rubber gear was fine.

well my problem is different havnt had time to open it up to look yet but everytime it rains or wet out at all my passenger side window struggles to make it some time doesnt and i will have to give a little push while putting the window up for it to happen!
I changed the permissions to everyone now, no sign in required. I have also updated the guide, that plastic sheave in the window regulator gave us hell for awhile too, we changed that in an earlier date before the plastic gears on both motors decided to give up.
Hi guys, yesterday after getting home from a hard day's work I decide to bring up my windows with the driver side controls. The driver side window has no problem going up or down. So I try closing the passenger window, it closes no problem and for some reason I try to bring it up again, nothing. So I head over on the passenger side control and it goes up no problem. Also, when I try bringing the window up with the driver side control all I hear is a small click. Any advice on what this could be ?
Hey just wanted to add something here..
This guide won't help someone who is trying to fixing this problem by taking off the cap and picking out the rubber gear; because there isn't one for the drivers side. (Unless the part in my drivers has already been replaced with something?)
I ended up rigging up a part from the passenger side part I had a spare of.
I find that weird, there should be rubber gears inside both power window motors. Perhaps it has been replaced with something else other then a stock part?
If you can get a picture of it, I'd appreciate it. I am interested to see why there isn't a rubber gear inside.
Here's two pictures..
Have you taken off the drivers side before?
The one on the left is the spare one I had, and is the same as the one used in the tutorial the OP posted.
The one on the right you can see is all metal and sits a bit different, as well, the internals are different..
I don't know if that's how the drivers side is supposed to be, but instead of trying to track down a new part I swapped motors and made it fit.

The spare one i had didn't wind up but the motor worked and the plastic gear wasn't broken.
My window goes up and down smoothly now and that's all I wanted!

Great fix & good to know! Haven't had to change that yet but ...
I'm wondering if need be maybe then the motor internals from locally available USDM nissans from the local auto recyclers yards would do for a swap?
As a preventative measure, & i don't know if it makes a lot of difference, but in my gtir, i try and avoid using the full up/dn automatic feature, as in mine: the motor stays on a second or so after the window is closed, then audibly clicks off.
I try to avoid that strain [if any] by operating the lower switch manually.
fwiw: also have used a tiny bit of silicon spray along the runners on some other vehicles to ease operation up/dn and likely should do it on the gtir before winter as one window is a bit 'juddery'.
I found my passenger side door's window is a bit slow and balky too sometimes and it's just a grounding issue so far; opening and closing the door with a tiny bit of a slam usually gets it rolled up; in my gtir, getting it moving's best accomplished with the engine running especially in the cold temps.
Noticed anything "funny" with the exchange rates and parts prices lately:

Niksa, it's good to know that you were able to fix your problem.
I have taken the driver side window motor out and the gears were exactly the same on both sides, the guide shows both motors out being fixed in the last photo.
I have had no luck trying to find a power window motor that is compatible with the GtiR, but i am definitely interested to see what other people might of found that would work.
That's interesting Rogerli10! I have no idea what was in there then. As you can see from the picture it was all the same except for the plastic frame vs mine being metal.
