Need Help Diagnosing Problem
I had lent my car to a friend after leaving town for two days to go buy some HID's for my car, and when I came back i found out that my Gti-R was not what it used to be. Other then finding out that my friend put over 300km's on my car in under 2 days, I noticed that my car would loose power when ever i bring it over 3k RPM, or whenever i go up a hill, it also keeps slowly reving up too.
When i really try to give it some gas, it would rev up to about 3k then just climb up to 7k RPM and go no where for a bit then drop back down to 5k before going anywhere.
I would like to know what you guys think about this problem, my best guess is probably the clutch has gone, but i would like to know what you guys think.

sounds like your friend owes you a clutch and labor time.. you're probably looking at close to 1500$
Man, sounds like a job for Nick, he knows his stuff, listen to him. Beat on your friend, take his money, then fix what Nick says to. :D
i personally have not done a clutch on the gti-r yet. there are others that have and can comment appropriately. but a clutch will run you in the neighborhood of 300-700$, labor i'd say anywhere from 6-12hrs x watever rate you can get.
if you're going to do the clutch you might as well do other things along the way. since the engine is out i'd the following to save labor costs again
1. all water pipes in the back of the motor
2. remove the y bracket off the back of the motor
3. oil and water pump
4. timing chain and guides
5. new clutch hose, belts, rebuild alternator
these are nice to haves but not necessary --
6. rebuilds on the master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder if needed
7. lightweight flywheel if u have the funds
8. if you're planning big power and big turbo, some sort of forged pistons, cosworth headgasket, bearings.
i guess if you're handy and can remove the engine all yourself to save labor costs, u don't have to do any of the above till its needed. It's only a suggestion to save you costs and headache at a later date.

x2. Your clutch is slipping (badly, by the sounds of it) when you first engage it, then slowly grabs on when the rpms drop down to 5000 rpm, as you mentioned. Your buddy must've abused the crap out of your car. He basically polished the clutch plate. Requires an engine removal, or at least drop. Sorry.
All go, no show
I have done a clutch, motor swap ect on my own gtir if you want to arrange something i can do your clutch or whatever you need
message me if your interested.
