Fuel tank float / sending unit....
Switched out my stock fuel pump for a Walbro 255, remove / refit went fairly easily, especially with the help of the "how-to" on GTIR Modifiers Club. Problem is, I put it all back together, started up the car and my fuel gauge needle was buried past the empty mark, basically horizontal. Now I'm worried I damaged the float or sending unit in the tank. I've done some research but can't find any concrete explanation on any of the sites, so I thought I'd give you guys a try: anyone know what could be my problem? Keep in mind, it was fine before I made the pump switch, and I'm sure I have at least a quarter of a tank left....
Thanks for any feedback.
All go, no show

it could be that complex but it could be as simple as a wire i say take it back apart and look at it again first

You win the Grand Prize, ghost! I started taking everything apart with the ignition in the "On" position this morning, and started with wiggling/ pushing on the wire connections on the outside of the tank and lo and behold! Fuel gauge needle climbed back up to a quarter of a tank. Went and filled the tank and the needle climbed to full so everything's A-OK. Phew!

The fuel guage needle on my gtir always registers the level, even with the key out & engine off. Normal?

Mine does the same thing, so I think it is normal.
OK. Thanks i won't worry too much or at least know there's company lol , but now i'm still confused a bit: Usually i expected to have to turn the key to 'ON' like
GTIR DONE's car before seeing a level on the fuel guage needle.
Ours both are reading a level without the key?? Anyone know the reason for the difference?
I'll be installing a walbro pump soon too; thanks for tips and links.
