Transmission helpppp!!! :(

Okay so heres my story, first started as the sound my throw out bearing was going and I just kept driving it for a month daily, then it wouldn't budge over to first or second. Managed to unlock that by just messing around with the shifter. Does it every couple weeks now and then still. Now everytime I down shift I hear grinding and clunking... Then my speedo stopped working, then my clutch started slipping and just the other day i noticed it was leaking through where the trans sits connected to the motor. And so I changed the oil and found tons of tiny metal shavings and one chunk almost an inch long and a quarter inch wide but not thick at all. Ran it a day and drained it to see if any better, metal dust everywhere in the oil.. Waste of redline oil :( so all said, new tranny and clutch I suspect? Anyone have one for sale?

yep sounds like u dried out the syncros by driving it after you already new there was a problem. so yeah you either need a new trans. or a gear set. id take this a a major learning experince. if you hear or notice a problem. DONT DRIVE THE CAR.  or else you better save all your pennies because u no where there going to end up.

Agreed... with all these trans problems I think we need to start addressing maintanace issues ect... your going to have to re build for sure.. your clutch is probably contaminated with trans oil,, so it going to slip ,, and heat up and kill itself. but come to think of it how does trans oil leak into the bell housing???? throuhg the input shaft? is the fluid coming from the bell housing or is it leaking from one of the seals between the main case and the bell housing?

if its coming from the bellhousing its most likely from the input shaft. especially if the throw out bearing is going, its going to get super hot and melt the seal.

thanks for the fast responses guys! so basically, a bad throwout bearing will make these trannys eventually go to the scarp metal bin unless taken care of soon. anyone one ever rebuilt one of these transmissions? or am i best off finding a lower km one and taking care of it this time..

a bad throw out bearing on any transmission is bound to cause problems. and that could have been the case with your. but it could have been something else. like have you ever changed the fluid before you ran into problems?. did you check it when u got it ? are you hard on the trans. aka launching the car all the time? running to the very top of the gears all the time? its like anything. you beat it. your gonna break it.

id be a little weary on this trans. i wouldnt be so much concerned about the silicone but more worried about the case being covered in corrosion ( unless its an optical illusion ). also it doesnt even list how many kms are on it. you better looking around for one on this site or either maybe the sr20 forum.

I've owned it only for a year now and I launched it at 5000rpm no more then 15 times.. But no I never changed the tranny fluid before. Just the motor every 4000km. I just turned twenty and it's hard to do all the maintenance with the costs always being so pricey! The guy before me never did any work to it at all.. And didn't even use synthetic oil.. :S

Okay so I got a tranny with low km and a newer clutch. Can I drop the whole trans from below or do I have to pull the motor? So far I've been trying to drop it. Front end all aprart removed axles.. Intake, battery, bov and some hoses all pulled out for some room. and the good ol y bracket is chillen behind there unbolted not wanting to come out. And I'm Guessing the starter motor is hiding behind there somewhere to? Anyone ever tried this way before? I want to kill something right now hah.. Any ideas or info would be great!

your like 98% of the way to having the motor out already. just save your self the head ache and drop the whole motor. trust me. its easier

^^^^^Agreed i am doing a clutch job now and this is the easiest way. any other way is just giving yourself more work.

Okay so it's out.. Didn't think it'd be that simple! So I'm curious as to everything I should Change since it's out. Rebuild starter, new alternator, timing chain tensioner, remove old intercooler mounts(got a front mount). And new belts! Deleted my ac since it never even had a compressor.. Don't wanna know what the previous owner did to this poor car. Now what else should I do?

rear water hoses

I'm having troubles figuring out how the clip on the clutch fork works.. Is it suppose to go behind the pivot ball or In front? I don't remember! It seems like it doesn't serve a purpose but I know it does. and the throw out bearing just slides up into the fork and sits there not really having anything to do with it.. I'm pretty sure. After that it's all ready to get put back in the car and the pulsar will be back in action!
