not running right

Hi

all

Presetation :

My name is sam im 20 and love jap cars. I live in france and own a jap import gtir.

I am experiencing some problems with my car. The car will not rev properly. In neutral the car revs perfectly throught the rev range but in gear it starts spluttering and kinda off missfiring after 4500 revs . I have changed the spark plugs ht leads cap and rotor arm and fuel filter its still the same i have done a fault code cheack and its all clear.

what to do next???

thanks

sam

any help would be much appreciated

sounds like a flat spot in your fuel curve. new fuel pump never hurt these cars. just a guess tho cheers!

Hi liquidpuls

Thanks for the advise just tried it it runs abit better but still not right. (Also thanks to all the others as well)

in neutral it will rev through the rev range but when driving in gears it wont.

1st gear about 6-6.5
2nd gear 4-4.5
then the rest is the same.

could it be the det sensor??

I have done a fault code check and its all clear...

thanks

sam

Mine is doing the same thing but after some pulls and trying to pinpoint the problem I've found that it's the clutch thats slipping as it builds boost/power. Should be a fun job.

when i got mine the car wouldnt boost properly, was kinda sluggish, it was hard to hit a high speed etc. took a look at all the engine etc fine, it was a hole in the exhaust. i didnt hear anything when i was riving around... you know you can usually hear a hole, but when i bought the exhaust off benmack and put it on, it went like a dream.

you could have a little hole somehwere that you can hear that could be it, more than likely not but you can always check

I second the earlier suggestion to check the fuel pump.

just looked at the turbo and the turbo actuator is broke so will be replacing it then trying the car again to see what happens.

Mine was a pretty quick progression over a matter of a few drives. It would slip then catch really quick which would make it feel like a misfire or fuel issue. Then after about 10 harder-ish pulls it just starting slipping more as the boost built.

OK so I finally figured my stuff out. Turns out I had 2 things going on at once which wasn't helping the whole diagnosis process. First was that my clutch was a little glazed due to the throngs of car enthusiasts wanting to be a passenger in the R for some fun. From here on I vow to slow down my shifts and go easier on my girl lol. I think I have all that out of my system. Thanks to 91GTiRgrey for some deglazing tips.

Second is that my boost control solenoid vac line was unhooked at the intercooler connection. No wonder the needle was spiking past my stock boost gauge lol. I'm guessing fuel pump couldn't keep up once she spooled. Bad part is now I can feel the solenoid kick in and say "that's enough fun for you" but she is still fast enough for me (coming from a D16Y7 lol). I might do the proper 1 bar loop once I get everything else with the car the way I want it (I am on rattle detail right now, and windy windows). Must have forgot to hook the vac line back up when I installed my SSQV 3.

Third, the "Return" key now actually creates a new line in the reply box on this forum!
