Gear Kits.
Hello All,
I was not sure if you have already discussed this topic.
Is anyone running upgraded gears or transmissions, please let me know your experiences or recommendations. For example: PPG, PAR, Quaife gear kits.
How many of us would be interested in upgrading, has anyone organized a group buy. (Sorry question mark not working.. lol)

PPG is expensive but worth the money, i know some guys in the UK cryo trat the gear box etc- dip it in liquid nitrogen and let it come back to room temp, apparetnly it stregthens the metal... not sure though
BOTTLES ARE FOR BABIES.. REAL MEN GET BLOWN
i don't have a aftermarket kit, but you could deburr it by hand, smoothen out edges and have it wpc coated.
Yes I herd the same, I don't think it makes much of a difference. That's the only part of the car that just makes me feel weak lol
i just dont see a whole lot of ppl interested when the gear kit will cost more than the car. It's not so much the gears breaking as its the actual case cracking and splitting open.
I agree, however there might be a few enthusiasts. I think we are limited to 350whp, anything after that will shred the gears. Yes the gearset is very pricey, is there anyone in Canada that would produce a gear set? I know Quaife is retailing for 1900GBP.
I'v also been looking at this... I feel the gears them selves will put up with about 450-500 hp if cleaned and treated.
A friend and I have already begun looking at weak spots on the case andd this winter we plan to weld on more aluminum and do some minor machining. then shotpean and cryo the case. If it works out Were gonna make a fixture and charge about $500-$700 plus shipping. for the service.
I really hope this works out.. and if we can do it cheaper we will.. I'm not really in it for the money I just hate to see a motor capable of 500hp with stock internals be limited to say 350-400...
Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive
by all means go for it, but I have a feeling you will shortly run out of gearbox casings after breaking them.
They have tried fibreglassing the box, cryotreating it, bracing it, etc etc etc now there's one or two guys in the UK who are trying to use a flat collar with no teeth instead of 5th gear (or maybe 4th can't remember) to hopefully solve the drag race limits.

If this works out, it would be great. *Fingers Crossed*
I'm looking into local shops trying to cut gears and figure out if we really need to reinforce the case. But I don't think it's going to be under $2000. That is the only thing that gets me. The motor can make a lot more HP, and the tranny can't handle 400hp. Let me know if you need anything I have a few damaged gearboxes lying around. lol.
