Engine break in
Hi guys, this is my first rebuild so I am not to sure on how to break the engine in ... some say run it hard some say run it slow so I am confused with all this. I know not to use synth oil for the first few kms but what grade of oil should I be using for the break in ?

i was told the way you break it in depends on the tolerance when you had it bored.

never heard of that one ! my engine is not getting a rebore, just a nice honing.
drive it like u stole it.. without holding a constant speed, ie constant 100km's on the highway
Nice and easy at first. Gradually increase the aggressiveness, but like nick says, not a constant.
GTi-R, the best ugliest car I've EVER seen/driven. You can make it cool, you can make it fast but you CAN'T make it look pretty.
i have several friends that have four hundred plus horsepower cars and there train of thought follows nicks ,quote drive it like you stole it ! it seats the rings properly,so give er shit man !
you have about 50 km to seat the rings on a modern engine due to such fine machining and close tolerances. Beat on it early, and change the oil immediately.
Yep, start it, wait till it's warm and drive it around. Change the oil when you get home. My GTR saw 14psi boost on day 2. Made a solid 530AWHP, and still had great compression a year later. Too bad the bearings weren't up to the task....
