Down pipes... whos gote who needs em?

Well I need a new down pipe. my 3" hack job is not cutting it any more.

who else needs one?

If you all like my work I'll take orders...

How much? What kind of piping are you using? Will you only make 3", or smaller diameter as well?

"Hack job" does not exude a lot of confidence in your work...

LOL yea hack job meaning mild steel bend with quick welds.. I needed a new flex pipe so I just re-made the whole thing in 3" to where the cat should be

Ok as far as price goes I'll let you know once I build one,

I'm just trying to gauge an interest... seems if I make about 5 of them it won't be in vain.

My design:

02 housing, trying to make an 02 housing that divorce's the waste gate from the output of the turbine integrated with the 5 bolt flange.

1.25" pipe off the waste gate to run parallel with a 2.5" down pipe. and run both pipes to a 3" collector and 3"flex pipe the flex pipe would but up to the stock cat location.

My reason for the parallel pipes is to minimize ground clearance and allow for the fitment of aftermarket lower control arm braces skid plates etc.. essentially hanging only slightly lower than stock.

Wide band 02 bung would be in the collector before the flex pipe.

I would only build out of 304 stainless using stainless wire and the oem hanger off the block.\

AC: I'm not sire as I dont have AC what interferes?

I have to find out if it maters if the 02 sensor doesn't see the exhaust gases coming out of the wast gate.

open to sugestions,,,

these are lofty goals that will take some time

I'm also considering flanging the two pipes for easy-er removal as we all know what a Pita the five bolts on the turbo flangr can be!

if u can copy this for under 400$ then u'll have my business

it would be for maximum clearance for the sway bar, and any underbrace, and some clearance from the front cross member

i'd also consider a version for people without a/c to reduce harsh bends for better flow, take advantage of the space where the a/c unit would be.

also keep in mind the 5 bolt flange to be slotted to fit larger gt turbo's like the 2871 and 3071

i already have an am performance one, works well, tight fit, but my underbrace wont fit

if u can make a non cracking tubular manifold that places the turbo in the oem location, but perhaps about 1/2 further out that is around 500$ u'd have a ton of business too

have been told that divorcing the wastegate isn't a big deal. if it is why? was going to fab up my own with vibrant flange, bung and fitted pipe for the flange. but if divorcing the wastegate makes a difference, should i go the other route?

Posted: Sun, 11/15/2009 - 12:05pm

am perforance is divorced, and the O2 sensor is before they recconect, no problems

Posted: Sun, 11/15/2009 - 12:07pm

you're out of the 02 feedback area of the ecu map neways by the time the wastegate opens

oh and i think the intent of divorcing the downpipe is to reduce backflow and backpressure to the wastegate for improved flow.  how much this is true and are there any performance gains, i have no idea.. someone would have to test this back to back

we made a down pipe with a divorced waste gate that dumped to atmosphere for a friends turbo civic. we dynoed the car and he hated the obnoxious sound it made. so we plumbed the dump 18" from the elbow and dynoed it again... there was a 2 hp difference. the plumbed wast gate also had a smoother torque curve.

However, the real reason im divorcing the waste gate is to run two smaller diameter pipes for better clearance.
