Does anyone use coil packs?
I was wondering if anyone was using coil pack on there gtir. I have some friends that have them on there silvias and i was wondering if it is universal with the sr20det. also if anyone knows any downfalls to them.

i know that in my buddys skyline that when his coil packs weren't working properly that his car would splutter and would loose a great amount of power , kind of like the engine wanted to cut out every second almost, but kept going. it was really odd.
I haven't heard of it actually being done but seems possible. The top mount keeps heat in too well and it would kill coil packs fast on the gtir so it would have to be done with a front mount setup. I doubt though you'd see any real world performance improvement. I haven't had any ignition issues in the almost 2 years I've had my pulsar but I know of skylines where the coil packs have died and needed to be replaced.
why would someone want to switch to coil packs?
tuning is easier and they can handle more boost. they also run more efficantly...so i hear anyway. i think the ecu would have to be changed too a silvia one cuz of the single location for the distributer cap...i think lol
You would either have to run an aftermarket ignition controller that could handle COP ignition, or you would have to run a Silvia ECU, with a silvia CAS disk installed in the GTIR distributor, Unless you could determine that the disks had the same number of slots. Then it would just be a matter of wiring the distributor properly.
Also, the GTIR ECU runs 20 deg timing stock, where the Silvia is 15, no big deal.
Finally the injectors are 370 stock on a Silvia and 444 stock on GTIR, but the bigger problem is that the injector drivers on the GTIR ecu are made for low imp injectors, and the Silvia uses high imp.
