Cold Air Intake
Hi i'm a proud owner of a 1990 Nissan Pulsar GTiR lol love it. I'm just wondering I wanted to put a cold air intake into the beast. Just wondering if it's a good idea and what aftermarket company has one that fits the pulsar. Thanks

all the big name companies will make them, you could also try and have one fabbed up yourself?
BOTTLES ARE FOR BABIES.. REAL MEN GET BLOWN
5$ aluminum dryer hose is your friend
How about injen or aem I tried looking on their site but they dont have intakes for the pulsar lol any suggestions? Lol
err, both being american companies
the gti-r never offered in north america
you can do the math
So any suggestions with what companies do offer it for the gtir? lol
make your own
LOL
Its true make your own. I got a cone filter for 20 bucks off ebay, with the maf adapter. i havent yet got the flexi hose. but thats next because the filter sits at a crappy angle without the box holding it in place. I dont believe in "cold air intakes"
there's 2 ways to do it, box off your filter, run dryer ducting through the hole where the washer bottle would sit on passenger side, or through the hole that routes down through the fender
or maf adapter, 3" 45 degree silicon hose with long legs, 3 inch pipe, 3" 90 degree silicone hose with long legs, 3 inch pipe (not needed if using apexi filter with adapter), attach filter, lots of clamps. you'll also have to cut out the hole larger where the washer bottle would come through. and you'll also have to relocate the battery.
easiest solution, dryer duct to the filter while boxing off the filter.
its amazing what a little bit of hot water tank heat insulation can do for boxing things off, like insulating the bottom of the intercooler, insulating the side of the master cylinder, protecting the intake from engine heat.
Clear plastic welders face shields bent up and zip tied together can split the airflow to the side, costs virtually nothing, and when cleaned you could hardly see it was there. Put a sticker on it if you want. lol
The best temperature i was once told for intake air was eighty six degrees Fahrenheit according to VW for atomization and density.

the only aftermarket intake ive ever seen for the gtir was made by piper in the uk and they didnt make many only ever seen one actual pipe and all intake, was a real sweet piece though lots of work into it, you may be able to talk turbine tech into making you one he has a definite no nonsense "you pay and ill make it" kinda attitude and does super nice work.
Guaranteed to put a smile on the front of your head!
I'm going to be making one here in the next month or so, just need to get an engine back in my car to use for a jig. I'll post it up once it's done.
I went from a 530WHP GTR to a 220HP GTi-R, but I'm still smiling....

My stock airbox was replaced by a cone filter so I just made a carbon fiber wall with a hole for the stock pipe and a soft seal to the hood. Also did the washer pump hole-flexy dryer pipe mod :D
Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive
I just ordered a cold air intake kit from Fujita competition air intake systems.

I ordered the intake through Calgary Autoworks. I'll post some pics of the installation when the intake arrives.

Hey guys thanks for the help but I think I'll go with kidwebber and oder an intake fro
Fujita looks really nice to and for 250 pretty reasonable.

Ya AFAIK cold air intakes might help a little for non turbo cars but if you have a turbo'ed car that colder air just gets heated up by the turbo anyway.
The idea behind the cold air intake for the GTIR as far as I can tell is first to increase throttle response and initial pickup (the stock air box is restrictive) and secondly to eliminate the rubber piping that runs to the inlet on the compressor. I will most likely not see a decrease in intake air temps however I will have the piece of mind knowing that non metered air is not being sucked into the turbo and that my throttle response/pickup is maximized.
plus the Fugita intake looks sweet
Kyle
True, the airbox is restrictive and mine's gone but I think a short ram air intake would be better than a cold air intake for the gtir.
any decrease in temp will be proportional to ambient T
looks like the fugit air filter is collapsing under the manifolded vacuum accumulated down that tube in what can be seen in the vid
if sweet is small , yes

So would it be better to get a short ram intake? Could i buy the filter for it and replace the stock filter (including the box)? Sorry for all the noob questions lol. And when i put the filter on would i have to put a heat shield because i seen some people without the shield, just the intake.
1. apexi generic either the 75mm (500-A026) or 80mm (500-A025) 95$
http://www.apexi-usa.com/products/?id=5362
2. maf adapter 21$
http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/misc_intakexh.html
3. 3" 45 degree silicone hose off ebay 20$
you'll likely have to move the battery around
else, the cheapest way would be a maf adapter and a k&n 3" inch cone filter probably run you 60-75$ for everything
