Clutch Failing

Clutch Failing
My clutch is on it's last life. Engaging from any gear is getting hard. Gonna have to invest in a new one preferably stage 2 again.
(currently Exedy Stage 2) Don't have the know how to do the job myself. Does anyone have any idea's on somewhere to go to get this done without getting ripped off. Went to Mister Transmission the other day guy said that before any work would even be done it would be like $400 to diagnose....ouch! Suggestions?

might check first that your clutch pedal is actuating properly. It is documented that they can bend and loose pedal action.
If you hear a creak or crack when depressing, or the pedal is going a bit sideways when pushing down, check that the bracket holding the clutch pedal's pivot point is in good shape. The spot welds at the firewall break, the pedal support on one side collapses/or breaks, and the pedal doesn't fully actuate the piston in the hydraulics so no more clutch.
Not to worry: if the brackets loose or broke, then a very simple piece of metal strapping can be made easily to support the pedal on that side from the steering column mount. Search clutch pedal in threads here to find out.
Hoping, it's simple and not a clutch r&r! best of luck.

Went to start the car today and the clutch pedal is now sticking. Once pressed it won't even come back up unless i flick it back up with my foot. I can't even get it into gear at all now. From bad to worse....to top it all off it's in underground parking with low ceilings which makes getting a tow nearly impossible.
Check to see if you have any hydraulic fluid left in your clutch reservoir.
wow! a flat tow with a strap may be needed to get it out the bay if it's not the fluid just required... if you and some buddies do the extrication out the parking garage note the ramps' corner angles and strap lengths' ..... might take care there and bring some chock blocks for the wheels if req to relocate the straps safely on the bends.
fwiw: I was fortunate to get mine home off the street by shifting without the clutch: shifting real low rpm-low torque, matching revs gently on the downside of throttle blips vs. reving and trying to jam; short-shifting 2-4 or visa versa , go slow even pace sytle etc.
Luckily for me my car's failure was uneventful in an off hours time of low traffic levels; though i had to stop and start a couple times en route.
I was able to start off forward again without the clutch after having to disengage the gears and stop, by re-starting the engine with the transmission in 1rst gear, [having a good clear path in front], and as i cranked the starter, i had to give it a tiny bit of pedal to help it light up; it would chug a bit, and then zoom. It's hard on the starter to crank so many amps and turn so slow but it got me home. Do this with your car warmed up to start with i'd say.
Pushing the car in neutral yourself to a few mph speed [ug!] and the jumping in while moving, and jamming it into gear can be done and hopefully no teeth are chipped.
In that situation, jamming into 2nd gear works much better to turn over the engine enough without braking the forward momentum suddenly and stalling out.
Again i hope it works out simple. best luck and i hope the car is running soon.

uhh why wouldn't you just pay for a tow? 75$ for caa membership and you get your tow. all that wear n tear on your starter, synchros, battery, alternator and possibly gear crunching for 75$?
neways, check if your clutch master or slave is leaking, its probably failed. this is a good place to start.

because i can :)
starter took a couple hits for a few seconds vs. 20 second cold crank, battery is now large high amp hours :), alternator??? no issue,... gear crunching is optional depending on the operator.
Gave up on CAA as useless for any timely extrication outside of urban areas, and if you need a boost in peak times call a cab. CAA forgot about my old mother stranded last spring on a rural roadside in some communication mixup with the local tow operator. Not impressed anymore.

Where is the clutch resevoir located? A pic would be awesome.
small round reservoir, right side of car by firewall behind brake reservoir.
look in the gallery and find an engine shot

You guys a very helpful...thats why i like this site. I will try it when i get home from work. Hopefully i can get her movin' again.
First hello to everyone !!
I just bought a gti-r 2 days ago( happy new owner haha ) and I just got the same problem with my car today. The clutch failed 3 street from where I live ( by luck ) I took a look on the engine bay and the clutch fluid was empty..I did my research and found that my slave cylinder was leaking like hell. So here are my questions, do I need a new slave cylinder ? If so, can someone tell me if it's better to put a brand new kit or a rebuild kit with a new hose ? And for the rebuilt I don't even know how to do it, i'm a newbie with car mechanics...so maybe a bolt on kit will be better for me ?? Please someone help me !!!!!!
if you dont know, dont touch it. my slave cylinder died, and i quickly found out that ours is special order item. (only found on awd SR20DET's). A new one from nissan was going to take 3-4 weeks. I found a used one at a wrecker for $50 and installed it. Nissan sells a rebuild kit. its easy as all you need to do is open up the cylinder and replace the seals with the new ones. however if you do it wrong chances are that you will be SOL!!. you also have to make sure you dont have any air in the system. good luck
And for the rebuilt I don't even know how to do it, i'm a newbie with car mechanics...so maybe a bolt on kit will be better for me ?? Please someone help me !!!!!!
rebuild kit was like $16 from nissan
ask around mabey one of your buds/local car forum/club could help you, but if in doubt take er in a get it done.
Thanks guys ! I just ordered a brand new kit from nissan with the parts number !!( the complete clutch master cylinder AND the complete slave cylinder )280$ I'm lucky cuz they got some in vancouver. I'll have to wait 3 to 4 days before it come to my door :) !!!

Thanks for the info ! i'm gonna try out this week, hopefully i've got a buddy here who wants to help me out ! So the only thing I have to do in order to get the master cylinder out is to undo the top mount intercooler and then Jack the engine up ? Does this make enough space to take the whole master cylinder off ? I've read someone who did this without removing anything(may have some kind of bionic hands ?!?!)lol. I'll try to take some pictures while doing the job. Maybe a ''how to change your Master/Slave cylinder Article'' with pictures would be helpfull for someone else's having this problem. It seems to be a common one for Gti-R's owners !! =D
I did it today ! the only thing I have to say is....It was a fuckin pain in the ass doing that job !!! Took me 6h doing it with both the master and the slave, I did not remove anything by the way and did not jack the engine too. Good luck to anyone who wanna do this alone haha !!! The only tips that I can tell you is be patient...If I did it with almost no mechanic background...you can do it too ;) If you have any questions don't be shy to ask !
