i had mine partially out when i was swapping exhaust, from what i can tell the manifold needs to come off... wasn't it hitting the elbow though? Thats what i remember anyways, one of those i think has to come off.
ok so this might not be the best way to do it... but it worked for me and i have no problems!!
what i did is i stuck a crowbar (one of the big mothers) in between the bolt and the manifold and i started to push the bolt upwards... it bent the bolt slighty but the bolt then came right out.... then when i went to put it back... i just had to wiggle it a little, and it went right it.. no problems at all! bolted it up and done!
if you take off the belt you can lift the alternator high enough (get a freid to hold it up) to reveal the bracket that the alternator bolts to.
The bracket bolts directly to the block.
Theres two bolts on the top, one on the bottom and one on the side that all bolt the bracket right to the block.
this might require pulling your AC pump. I took mine out anyhow,,, it's four bolts and really easy.
also if you can drain and pull the rad it makes lining things up so much easer,, plus you'll get a healthy rad flush :D
seems like a lot but these are all simple jobs compared to messing with the manifold and possibly screwing things up.
this job can be done with a buddy in 4-5hrs basic mechanic skills.,,,
PS un hook the battery and all harness to the alternator first lol

Yeah I kinda figured it out already lol but this is the route I took also, altho I didn't have to pull the Radiator, didn't take me too long(with no "Buddy") It was pretty easy, just tedious. Thanks again guys.
bump
I am not sure right now but I can look for you tomorrow when i go rip mine apart.
