your car history

I was wondering what was the car backgound of the GTIR canadian owners.

Me, im 32 and have had 5 cars but really only 3 where fun to own cars, the other two were crap buckets.

1980's Renault 5 "the camel" - had slipping clutch and leaking rad...
1992 Dodge shadow - Daily driver
2000 Ford Focus ZX3 - low 14's NA fully modded car
2002 SVT Focus - high 13's Supercharged / modded car
1991 Nissan GTIR - Modded car

I always thought having a focus would be sweet. My parents have one, and its not bad for a family car (its not the svt)
As for myself the only car i have owned is my 1992 GTI-R since i just turned 18. I think that is a pretty good car to start with.

I'm turning 30 in a few months. I've owned a lot of cars. Here's a quick history:

1) 1985 Pontiac Acadian 4 dr hatch... actually shared the car with my older sister as I was only 15 when we bought it.
2) 1978 Chevy Chevette 4 dr hatch... perfect shape, 120 000k when I bought it... wrote it off less than 2 years later.
3) 1991 Mazda 323 LX 2 dr hatch... really fun, quick car. Started my love affair with Mazda and imports in general. Did all the body work on it myself.
4) 2000 Mazda Miata SE... My first and only brand-new car (6 k's when I bought it) Leather, 6 speed, Bose stereo, still probably the best performance car I've ever owned. I miss it.
5) 1976 VW Rabbit... Orange and ugly. I loved it, except I always had to work on it. Not good when it's supposed to be a reliable winter car.
6) 1990 Chevy Corsica LT... 2nd winter car after the Rabbit died. 3.1L V6 was suprisingly strong, but handled like.... a Chevy.
7) 1993 Honda Civic Si Coupe... gf/wife's car. Great reliability/ gas mileage/ performance. Finally sold it after 7 years with 280,000 k's.
8) 2004 Mazda RX-8... a VERY close second for best car I've owned. It was beautiful, but I wasn't willing to drive it in winter, or buy another beater, so I sold it after driving it for 8 months.
9) 1993 Nissan Altima GXE... car totally suprised me. Good power (4 cyl), good handling, fun 5 speed, nice interior... just rusty.
10) 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS... 180hp, 6 speed, but still not a great performer. Made in Canada, and all the squeaks prove it. About to become my wife's car, heh heh.
11) 1993 Nissan Pulsar GTIR... arriving in the next week.

Thanks for reading, writing brought back many memories.

Ty

I am seeing a trend on the demographic of GTIR owners... I am sure the one of us who had focus got inspired by the wrc and then felt frustrated that it only came in FWD... thats why we ended up with the GTIR... that and the fact that we didnt want a subaru...

Posted: Mon, 09/08/2008 - 9:58pm

well i guess ill have to be different :p . I started with a 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si and sorta went to an 87 celica but its never been able to run more then 2 days..... then i got a 90 pulsar and it lasted for 2 days before it rolled out of teh drive way, so i bought another one and it has finally broken the 2 day car curse for me.

Posted: Mon, 09/08/2008 - 10:14pm

Soratora... is your GTIR run for more than 2 days at a time? Mine has been down for a week almost now and I got it in pieces... hopefully it runs in 2 days. lol

1. 1990 crx si bought it with 95,000 km's sold it 3.5 yrs later with 265,000km's on it. Bagged on it everyday and never failed me. Drove from Vancouver to Toronto twice non stop, 42hrs x 4. Full suspension mods, stripped, intake, header, exhaust, my autox car.

2. mamachari bicycle. with basket and bell when i lived in Japan.
3. 1991 cyber crx sir, black, glassroof, lsd, right hand drive, fun until the tranny exploded when climbing knight street right after the bridge. left a 4 block long trail of tranny fluid and tranny bits. if this had a turbo it would have probably been the most fun car, very little torque steer and the lsd was awesome. i miss it.

4. gti-r

5. i'm considering an 04/05 sti or importing an nsx or supra.

1990 Mazda B2200 pickup, this thing just wouldn't die. This one also took some massive jumps :)

1998 Elantra SE - fully bolted, I just wanted to do something else then a Honda.
1990 Accord 2 door sport. sold it for 2k with 340k on the odo. This thing was a tank.
1991 Civic Si - same deal as the Accord, just a tank couldn't kill it. Used as DD.
2004 Echo - DD replaced the Civic.
2004 Nissan Spec-V - Did the full bolt-on thing for 2 years and then put on a huge t3/t4 turbo kit. was pretty quick however it's a fwd.
