RHD orLHD???

just thought i might try and get a idea of what everyone else thinks. do you like driving right side or left??? i prefer the right being ferther away from oncomming traffic. sure passing is a pain but if you just take your time you can make it to a safe passing situation. takeing you time seams to be the most safe way for me.

if i had a choice lhd in a lhd road design.
the only reason i chose a rhd car was kuz it was way cheaper than the lhd version and easier to find.

Lhd definitely! my shifts are a thing of beauty in my audi albeit every day I get better with the rhd, I don't think ill ever be as good on that side of the car. and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that i'm lefthanded! I've always been spoiled in a way by the fact that i've been allowed to steer with my dominant hand, and shift with a hand that has been forced to do many "right hand only tasks". whereas a right handed person is forced to drive with their "weaker hand" Or.....maybe its just me! hahaha Cheers

I prefer driving rhd. although, if you are talking about lhd or rhd gti-rs, and you found a lhd one. Frig buy the lhd, way more rare.

Posted: Tue, 06/09/2009 - 8:00pm

i also prefer RHD cuz im right handed and I like better to use my good hand on the steering than on the shifter. I also got fairly used to LHD and taking left turn super aggressive, so now I feel like I practice getting more complete of a driver.

maybe i drive funny, but i never shift mid corner, so it really doesn't matter what side i sit on.

Posted: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 7:11pm

i know but go to the dragstrip and see how some people jerk the wheel as they shift more aggresivly...

Here in europa they can be obtained even by steering wheel to the left side so you look for it well. If you were interested I you can obtain it

9500 euros.. ouch  by the time it gets here and cert'd its probably around 17k canadian.. for a few thousand more could have yourself an evo ix or 96 sti

Posted: Thu, 06/17/2010 - 11:28am

Yeah LHD R's arent cheap here either.

Posted: Wed, 06/23/2010 - 6:58pm

If i had money to burn i'd buy one anyways. i love these cars, but the hassle with licensing, and keeping them licensed is rough.

Posted: Wed, 06/23/2010 - 11:12pm

I'd take an evo 9 or evo 10 before a LHD gtir and the costs associated with buying it and getting it over here.

Aside from buying RHD or LHD cars. I really don't think there's that much of a difference between driving RHD and LHD, I am constantly switching between the two and its not that difficult as long as you drive smart. The only difficultly is when your first starting to adapt to RHD driving, there's a lot you got to watch out for.

Such as:
Getting used to driving on the right side, i remember when i first got a RHD vehicle i kept swerving because i was so used to driving LHD.
Turning right, sometimes the angle you enter at really blocks your view of traffic.
Turning Left at an intersection, if there are any cars in front of you, you cant see oncoming traffic.

yep slow and steady is good for RHD. ps love this thread :D i feel it will help a few new right hand drivers . and i hope we are all safe out there! :D

I was wondering how to use hand signal with a RHD car.. Maybe its just the opposite you use your right hand instead of the left.. But the driver following you won't barely see your hand.. and vice versa. .

Posted: Thu, 12/23/2010 - 7:29am

hand signal? WTF for? lol   I guess there's one hand signal I use ALOT!  but it doesn't mater which arm lol

The first thing that might happen when you stop and try and turn left using an out-stretched arm type hand signal in a RHD vehicle here: may be perhaps… 1. the guy behind you will logically think there is no driver in the left seat, 2. he will figure that your vehicle is disabled with the driver gone and 3. observing your seemingly contrary though polite hand signal beckoning, will 4. possibly consider that you're waving him past and through …. and 5. you are then left to ponder the likelihood of what might happen next as you tentatively pull away from the intersection into traffic.

Im wondering why you would use a hand signal, lol. The car still has signal lights :S

Posted: Thu, 12/23/2010 - 4:33pm

lol.. It just came out of my mind.. Yeah little to nobody uses hand signals nowadays.. but you'll never know the car in front of you is using a hand signal and you can't see it.. I'm really looking forward to owning a RHD car.. I'm sure it's gonna be fun.. I can't wait. .
