Parts to use so u can pass a dot inspection.

I was thinking in an effort to help guys get there GTiR's thru a b.c inspection i would give a couple a pointers on some parts that are cheap and easy to make work on the R. For D.O.T headlights u can use 88-89 mazda 323 headlights. there is a small gap but they look pretty decent. Look at my car for a visual. When and if u decide to use these headlights u just need to modify the bracket so they bolt to the stock location. USE THE COMPLETE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBALLY FROM THE 323. Or what u can do is order replacements from TYC . They make alot of aftermarket lights. Another option is headlights from a Sunny (Same as a Pulsar For they new guys who don't know.) as long as the Pulsar or Sunny is from a LHD country they will pass. Ebay Italy or Ebay Germany are good options for LHD headlights. Just make sure they are an E code headlight and they will pass inspection here. For side marker lights a nice clean marker can be found on any S13 240sx. They are a cheap nice fitting part and will look stock. u just need to splice into ur parking lights and ur all done. Please feel free to add to this if u have any thoughts.

One note on the 323 headlights is if u r gonna try that route then make sure u get the headlight plug as the 323 headlights use a 9004 headlight bulb. just use some spade connectors on the headlight harness and plug them into the stock headlight plug. Hope this helps. Also if anyone needs NEW not used E code headlights i can get them. The problem is that shipping does take a while. They are Glass lenses tho and will bolt right in.

Ok, so I didn't pass de inspection yesterday :-( my R has plates on it, from Ontario, but I moved to Québec and I need to pass this inspection to get Québec plates.... front headlights are not DOT, SAE or have the letter E in a circle...

These glass ones, new, with the E code... how long and how much?

can you send me a pic of the 323 ones on your R?

thanks!

I just bought a set of LHD pulsar lights off a local importer (terra2imports) that are direct bolt in and e-code. Set me back $400 though!
Also if anyone is looking for other headlights to try - while I was experimenting I tried some 88-91 honda civic lights and they fit pretty good.

wow, 400$

any pics of your set up? and do you have a contact email or name at terra2imports???

thanks

400 bucks is alot! you should be able to get ones from italy for alot cheaper than that even with shipping...my car has a bc vin number so i dont have to worry and i am running the rhd lights...i ordered one from the uk that cost me 10 bucks and 50 bucks shipping...

I will try to get some pictures tomorrow - they are absolutely perfect fit, I assume they're from a sunny. The person I spoke with was Nick Williams, at their support address (available on their website).
I probably could have gotten the same lights cheaper on ebay or something - but they gave me a guarantee that the lights would pass oop and the lights shipped to my doorstep in like 2 days =)

Hey Mat i will male a call and ask about the lights. i know it does take a while. but if u decide on getting new ones then unfortuanatly u do have to wait. in the meantime look at my cardomain page and see what u think about the 323 lights. there cheap and easy to put in.

any 91-94 nissan sunny that is left hand drive will do. doesnt have to be gti-r specific.
you can pick them up from anywhere in europe minus the uk.
European sunny lights are e code marked. It even says so in Nissan Fast. You can order them direct from nissan too if you're rich. If you know someone in the service department you can get them for nearly half retail.

Here are some pics of my lhd sunny lights:

Posted: Fri, 02/22/2008 - 8:51am

Posted: Thu, 03/13/2008 - 3:50am

JDM source in Calgary got my OOP done prior to selling me the car, and I know they didn't change the lights. it all depends on the mechanic you take it to. some care and some check just the important things.

In B.C when the inspection is done on a JDM car they now have to take pictures proving that the lights are dot. if the inspector doesnt take pics of the dot markings then the inspection is deemed invalid and then ur car is taken off the road if ur caught or worse if u were to get into an accident then the insurance company will void ur insurance and u get nothing for ur car.

Has anyone who has imported their car themselves have had a problem with their federal inspection ("Form 1" I believe??)? Seems they can only be done at Cambodian Tire's, and I can assume thats a gong show...anyone have a personal experience they wanna share on the subject? The provincial inspections in alberta are pretty lax from my experience, crooked ass fly by nite mechanics all over, ready to sign whatever paper you ask for $140

I have the TYC lights on my car, they came from germany also. Very nice quality part thats for sure! They have the "E" in the circle.

Posted: Wed, 05/07/2008 - 8:13pm

Hey guys, I have the "E" code on my front corner lights. It says E13 in a circle. But it doesn't say this anywhere on the headlights... Does this matter? Also, What does E code mean exactly? Does anyone know if they will pass a manitoba safety inspection? By the way, I live in Winnipeg and just got my Pulsar from Calgary, anyone else on here from winnipeg?

Posted: Thu, 05/08/2008 - 12:31am

e code means european code. for lhd countries in europe. any e cod elight that is aomed properlly will pass a inspection.

Posted: Thu, 05/08/2008 - 4:25am

Okay, well, the corner light has it on them, but the headlight doesn't... from what i can tell though, they look like they came together so maybe the headlight is an E code?

Posted: Thu, 05/08/2008 - 9:39am

no the headlight WILL have An E in a circle stamped on the headlight if it is an actual e code light.

Posted: Thu, 05/08/2008 - 7:07pm

Dang, they don't, but the corner lights and the brake lights do.. guess i will be getting some of those 323 lights or the lhd ones from germany. Also, the back seat belts don't work, except for the middle one, anyone else had this problem? maybe something is just stuck in them.... i can't wait to get this thing safetied, fun times will be had in this car!
