Some insurance help

So im trying to get prices for insurance, and some companies just dont have it listed under their model lists.

Anyone have some suggestions on some cheap insurance companies i can call up.

Go through TD Canada Trust. I think their insurance branch is called Melosh Monix. They had me get a private appraisal done ($8250), and they insured (fire, theft, write off) it for that amount. I'm paying $91/mth for full coverage.

i spoke to td canada trust already and they said they dont insure right hand drive vehicles:S

and also meloche told me i dont qualify cause my college isnt registered with them :S

k ill try them but like what info do I tell them pertaining to the model of car. Or just give them the vin # ?

Posted: Mon, 08/11/2008 - 1:33pm

That is crap. I have had mine insured with them for about 9 months. They said that they just started insuring RHD vehicles and were evaluating them on a case by case basis. I had to make ALOT of return phone calls to follow up, and explain EVERYTHING each frigging time (it was like they don't make notes on the quotes, or each rep doesn't actually read them). Explain that replacement parts are available through the local Nissan dealership (Fish Creek Nissan here in Calgary), the closet North American domestic model would be a Pulsar NX2000. Stress that the parts are available through the local dealer. I am trying to remember everything I had to say. Basically they got all the information and then passed in on to this other group for review.

Good Luck.

Do you know how you would go about a re-vin in Ontario? Just curious.

I also am having insurance issues... I have my house and two primary use cars insured with PC Finacial... They will not insure my RHD GTI-R. So... 2 months ago when I got the car I went to State Farm and they gave me full coverage on an antique classic car policy(had to provide proof I had 2 others insured full time) for 32bucks a month. Sweet deal, till last week... He calls me to say, his underwriter won't do it because my primary cars are not with him. I asked for a quote and his price doubled my current payment. WTF! So I start calling around, (btw I am married ,over 30, have no accidents or claims, and have clean driving records)Almost nobody will touch this thing, and the quotes I am getting are those of a 16 year old male.(no offence to the young guys). Does anybody here have their GTI-R insured elswhere because their current company won't insure the vehicle? I tried silver wheels policy and they want over 2 thousand a year as a 3rd vehicle?Tried Kanetix.ca (vehicle not listed)even if I phone them they won't help me out, they just gave me a website with a list of brokers.I called about a dozen of them with no luck. I have 2 leads and am getting quotes tommorow, but could use any suggestions anyone has on this issue. What companies are people using? Thanks guyz.Let us know what you find out Styles.

Not really sure how it works in Ontario but, i just went to MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance), i had to argue with them lots about it, but eventually they just put in the vin and overrode the *Vin error* message. I have it covered for the same amount as a 240sx, but on my registration it says "1992 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R". So if anyone says they dont ensure rhd, thats bogus and they just dont want to go through the extra trouble.

When you say MPI, does that mean that the insurance industry in Manitoba is government run? Do you have no fault in Manitoba? I have 2 brokers working on this issue here and so far between the 2 I only have got one company that will take the vehicle and still give me a decent rate. I have to get vehicle appraised and as long as it is close to the value I gave them then I will be ok. Almost out of the water but not quite yet.

So... I finally got a respectable quote. Dominion Canada, 2 million liability, comp, collision, loss of use, write off value of 8000.00$(as appraised until roof dent fixed) 1070$ for the year(did not have to switch my other vehicles over either.) That's a pretty fair price in my opinion. I would be interested in your quote gti-rrr, with an accident and 2 tickets, will probably be a little higher. My quote is one ticket( 2.5 years ago) and no accidents or claims. Let me know how you fair out.

Yeah, in Manitoba car insurance is government run. I had to provide them with the export and import papers, the Transport Canada papers (approving the car for being 15+ years old) and a current Manitoba Safety Certificate. I pay just under $1100 a year for $2 million liability and $100 deductible.

had mine insured through meloche monnex here in calgary. they never once gave me any trouble. But they DO want you to be a "member" of some sort of professional group, Professional Engineers, APEGGA, ASET, Nurses Union etc... it was cheap too... like 650 a year I think... but I'm 35...

The vin is only supposed to be 11 digits... rnn14 ######.Just Wiki the car and you will see the vin ranges. Dominion Canada took my vehicle, RHD, for 2million Liability, comp, collision, loss of use, full jam. No accidents, no claims, 1 speeding ticket. 109.00$ a month.I have 2 other vehicles insured with another company who would not insure the RHD. Has a full cash write off value of 8000.00$. Bone stock vehicle ,65000km. Appraisal cost me 220.00$, got the number from my insurance agent.

I'm with Meloche Monnex (as some others here too I see), paying $585 (for the entire year) this year for 2-way insurance (theft, collision, liability etc), which they dropped down from only $760 for last year. I'm 21, male, one at-fault (one car collision) a while back and no tickets. Also student driver's school taken when I was back in High School probably lowers the rate...
I think I was able to get insurance with M.M. because of being a student, being in some kinda professional group and also I had them for previous cars, but for anyone paying over $1000 a year that's just crazy. Seriously try to give them a call. Like freaky al says above, it was a bit of a pain to keep having to call back and wait to hear from them, but it is definitely worth it.
Also the car is stock, and they said that they wouldn't really touch anything that is modified.
