Site Announcements

Just thought I would keep everybody informed of site updates. Since this site is still fairly young I will be improving it almost daily. I've added a 'Suggestions' link in the top right were you can give feedback on things you would like to see.

Two new improvements suggested by 'canock'.

1. At the very bottom of the page you can now view the online users.
2. I've added a regional forum so you can meet people in your area/arrange meets etc. (this will expand to its own sub forums when we get some more users)

Thanks for the great input!

I've added some additional profile fields which you can find in the 'My account' section (top right).

'no_boost' had a great suggestion of having users location show up on their forum posts - so thats how it now works. Be sure to add your location to your profile if you want it to be displayed.

Thanks to McDaveMP5 for suggesting an easier to read theme - If you edit your profile you will now see the option 'Theme Configuration' where you can choose your theme - the default is called 'miasma' and the new one is called 'miasma_light'. Feel free to use either theme, whichever you prefer. Also let me know if you would like to see any changes, I'm always open to suggestions. Thanks!

Thank you Miasma...
and the location is also a nice feature !! keep it up.

Do you mean have their full name in each post or just in their profile? I have actually added a full name field in the profiles which you can get to by clicking on peoples usernames.

I just meant first name. Kinda like the uk forum has. I was also think ing about breaking down some sections like a i need help section or stereo and bodykits sections and engine modding and a gearbox section. And a suspension section. Also how to guides general maintinance and for the for sale section maybe be broken down to a want to buy and a want to sell sub sections. i dont know what i think about that miasma just ideas lol.

What about a links thread for links to parts and or information ?

Posted: Sun, 01/27/2008 - 9:44am

We now have separate forums for 'Audio, Video & Security', 'Engine & Performance', and 'Suspension, Brakes & Handling', as well as 'Miscellaneous Tech'.
I've also expanded the buy and sell forum into 'for sale', and 'wanted'.

I don't know if there is enough content to justify another whole forum for links - but feel free to make a new post in general chatter called 'links' or something and I can sticky it.

gti-rrrr had the suggestion for a user uploaded image gallery! take a look at the top navigation under 'gallery'. Feel free to add your own images (you have to be logged in) and give me any feedback on the functionality - I just threw it together now so it might not work *perfect at first.

I've just added a new 'subscriptions' feature - you can find it in your 'My account' section - this enables email notifications of new posts/replies.
Let me know how it works!

I like that idea - but how would the ratings be decided?

The site is undergoing updates/maintenance today - please let me know if you experience any issues - you can pm me through the site or email at miasma (at) canadagtir.com.

You're right, they weren't being used that much - I've just made a new section for regional posts and put all of the existing topics in there.

Posted: Sun, 09/21/2008 - 3:46pm

As you can see, we've got a new theme in place - it was getting too hard to manage changes to both a light and dark theme at the same time so I've decided on one universal style. Post feedback if you've got it!

Posted: Sun, 09/21/2008 - 8:03pm

All registered users are now able to post 'Articles' - they will be passed on to me for review, and as long as they are not obvious spam will be published. You can find this functionality under a new menu (top right) called 'Create content'.

hope we can fix the bug with user showing as anonymous on the front page of the msg board.

Posted: Mon, 09/22/2008 - 8:20am

I think we should have a section for "How To's", or should we just put them in the articles?

I will create a 'How To's' article, and you will be able to add sub articles to that. I'm hoping to turn this into somewhat of a wiki, where the community can add and edit any article. Eventually I will develop a system where any user with a certain number of posts, will get the ability to edit or submit articles/news real time - while newer users content will be put into a moderation queue for me to check.

okay sounds, good, also, i noticed that it doesn't show the person with the last post, i think it shows the person with the last new thread made. Because under the engine/performance section it shows my last new thread that i made, not my last post in a different thread.

Sounds good about the how to section, but i think if you can make it some way, someone elses editting another persons how-to, should have to go through that person first to see if it correct... unless you mean, just having a different "sub-article" underneath it, thats a good idea..

Posted: Mon, 09/22/2008 - 3:51pm

woah, what the duece? what is this point i got? peg_pulsar just got 1 point! you now have 72 points!

Hmm - I'll have to look into that. I'm not sure what the desired functionality would be, though I guess it should be based on last comment, not last thread.

For now, users are only able to edit their own articles, though anyone can post a 'sub' article, to an already existing article - if that makes any sense. In the future I will expand the 'User Points' (see below) to allow for more/less control, based on your standing in our community.

A new points system has been added, if you take a look in the upper right hand menu you should see a new menu item labeled 'FAQ' where you will find a breakdown of how many points are awarded for each means of contribution to the community.

Ya thats what i meant,(on the last comment, not last thread...Right now it only shows the last comment made on the last thread created, not the last post for the whole section.) just so we actually know what was the last comment posted, so you are all up to date. You've been making some big changes, the site looks nice man, good job.

Just letting everyone know, I've removed the 'bbcode' formatting bar when your making comments. Instead we now have two links below the comment field for inserting images and links. I've enabled uploads for all users now so you won't need to find another site to host your images, you can just upload directly into a comment. Keep in mind the gallery is and has always been open to user uploaded images as well, but it is separate from images in comments.
