separating the transfer case from the transmission

Hey guys
I don't have an fsm but what I'm trying to do is part my transfer case from my transmission.

I've removed all necessarily bolts and the 2-pieces have separated but they remain stuck. I have about a 1" gap or so, pending on which side I pry. When I pry on one side, the other closes.

I'd like to know if there is a snap ring or something that keeps the 2 together.

Thanks
- Billy

did you take out the axle that runs thru the transfer case?

I didn't. Can you photo-depict what you are speaking about?

Would I have to remove a bearing seal in order to do that?

Ah ha that's it!  You need to pull that axil.   There's no snap ring.   I'd suggest lowering the motor leaving the drivers side mount intact to rotate the engine and allow the t case to clear the frame.  Oh and have the t case supported separate as it might just let go as soon as you pull the axil.   Good luck man!

Is this the so called "half Shaft" that goes thru the gearbox and connects to the transfer case??

If so then I have a hint as to what's going on...

The gearbox and transfer case is out of the car so it isn't the passenger side axle

yea if your referring to the "half shaft" that bolts to the CV "tulip" on the left hand side of the car... Thats the one.  Pop it out like you would a CV shaft...  mind the seals :)  should split straight away...

I haven't touched the trans since the weekend. It's at my buddies place since he has room and i'm living in an apartment. I'll tackle it and let you all know.
