s13 vs gtir

hey guys.. im in the market for a new ride and im stuck on either a s13 (180sx/silvia) or a pulsar gtir... help me out! lol

both nice ride with much potential, good luck in your search. I bought the GTIR myself due to the awd system and how much more practical it is for me since I snowboard a lot. In a year or two I plan on adding a S14 to my garage.

it depends on what you're doing with the car, if you drag race buy a s13, if you auto cross buy a gtir, overall a gtir is way better,in a couple years it will be a nissan classic

well i dont really do either i mean maybe like 5 times a year ill hit the 1/4 just for fun, but mainly i need a daily driver

i'd honestly go with a s13 as a daily driver if you don't have to move people or stuff a lot. the gti-r can be.. tempermental and certain parts are a pain to find. as you can see all the problems people have posted on the forum, there's only a lucky few without issues. it is a 19 yr old car, and never offered in north america.
pain and hassle free the s13.14.
money pit, with pain and hassle, the gtir.

they're fun in different ways.

Hybrid theory:

S13/14 with GTIR motor..

dumb theory, wrong mounting points. coilpacks vs distributor. intake facing the wrong way. a lot of work for a daily driver.

for way less money, all you need are used gti-r rods (100-150$), 19mm bearings, forged pistons, t28 or bigger turbo, and a bigger cam. you essentially have a forged gti-r motor minus the quads.

pffft what ever no idea is dumb... now this guy knows what internals to put in a sr20 block for a strong motor.. so in affect it has inspired and educated... lol

looks fine to me, it'll be hard to find cars that cheap now. don't forget you'll need lhd headlights, factor in another 3-500$, plus any misc repairs that appear. This is always the case no matter how much they promise its in good shape. i'd keep an extra 1500$ handy for anything that pops up, windshield, or electrics, alternator, belts, tires, brakes, joints etc.

anyways, shipping costs have risen, plus exchange rate is 1.4 approximately. So you also have to factor in profit and time to hold for the importer. If you do find something cheap that is on its way, i'd be wary of its condition. Approximate shipping cost per car is anywhere from 1000-2000$, plus duties, taxes, misc fees, and factoring in exchange. This car probably cost them 225,000-300,000 yen which is about 3750-4500$ cdn. When you're talking the japanese equivalent of 3grand in Japanese yen, makes you wonder!

also don't forget the availability of aftermarket parts, the s13 just has way more availability, choice, support, and stock.

Just choose which fits your lifestyle, if I could do it again, i'd have gone with a s14. I've just sunk so much into this car, i wouldn't get any value back. So i might as well just keep it till its in rusty bits.

Here's i think a hybrid theory. Much cleaner looking and way easier to do. NX2000 with gti-r motor, no one would suspect it, keep the nx motor for parts, lots have been done on sr20forum, all is well and you keep us gti-r lovers happy.

I'd even one up this, keep the stock block, gti-r used rods (150$), aftermarket pistons(400$), vvl head (1000$ used), nistune ecu (500$), gti-r exh. mani and turbo (500 used), ebay front mount (400)

very nice..love the white ones..but look at the auction sheet on the top right corner there is an 'R' which if I am not mistaken signifies it is a repaired vehicle so get it checked out well before you buy.

My cousins nx2000 is basically crapping out on him. he bought a new car, so we are gunna ghettocharge the nx. stock internals, bluebird ecu to support the MAF on the nx. hoping to do it for around 500. rip it around the fields by his house. Hopefully go with a t25 turbo, use the gtir mani, unless that doesnt support t25s (i dont know). if it doesnt we will get a t28. Its gunna be the ghetto-est, pimpest ride there ever was. We're planning on racing people on the highway while we are in the field. I'm hoping the thing lasts a week. :D

i loved the nx when i was a kid, my uncle had an nx2000 and he'd whip around town with me in it. he's now a cop and whips me around in the squad car with a tuned up vette engine, all i gotta say is wow. the mani will support the turbo, the gti-r t28 still uses a t25 flange.

Excellent, t25 it is. insta-spool. with that thing. Ya i've had tons of fun times in the ol nx. they are nice little cars, and decently snappy. This ghettocharging an nx should be a fun summer project, there will be some more fun times in that nx...

I thought about that GTi-R on Tyee as well, for my wife actually (how cool would that be?! A black one for evil me and pure angelic white one for my wife sitting side by side in my driveway lol), ufortunately it's got a "R"epaired status on it, so it's always a gamble as to how badly it was damaged.... sadly, I let that daydream of my ying-yang driveway go.
