if you are in canada please join IVOAC.ca Forums - Powered by vBulletin we need help to prevent this from becoming a country wide ban
lets stop this freedom of choice from being removed from our rights as canadians
while this is currently only a QC ban, it can VERY easily spread across our country...
people in quebec have already lost thousands of dollars invested on cars not yet landed...
over 15 businesses employing nearly 75 people are going to suffer.... and in these economic times no less...
there was NO notice given... no input from the public, no vote, no nothing...
speak up and fight for our right before it is too late....
this happened to Australia... and new zealand.... lets not have it happen to us too...
ALSO if they ban them in canada there is a possibility it could spill over down into the USA so you american folks need to be aware of this and be prepared to fight for your rights as well

thats crap, why would a RHD vehicle pose a risk- dont they care about the little shits racing mummy and daddys cars instead- people who buy RHD cars dont race- or at least i know i dont unless at the track- typical canadian government trying to restrict everything you do... wait until we have to pay for the air we breathe lol
BOTTLES ARE FOR BABIES.. REAL MEN GET BLOWN
yup thats why its important to mobilize now...
join up at www.ivoac.ca Imported Vehicles Owners Association of Canada
we fought for the 15yr rule and bombarded officals and news papers on the possible change and it stayed the same... this is different
the QC gov't didnt give any warning, no notice, no public opinion... the Minister of Transport did this on her own !!!
we need help all across the country so this doesnt spread like the swine flu, end this pandemic before it starts, and stop what is happening in QC right now

Wow!!..... All I can say after reading up on this all day... Registered vehicles can still be driven though right? Sounds like I can still drive my car since it was imported and licensed for a while... but if a 5-0 pulls me over and tells me to get an inspection I am toast right?
It is so stupid to label the vehicle as the problem, when it is so obviously THE driver's fault in any accident... unless a tire explodes or something equally probable on ANY vehicle. Why not crack down on speeding/road racing and DUI instead of on the position of the steering wheel...
And also as a side note, JDM cars are way sexy, why would Quebec wanna get rid of them??
oh wells at the end of the day, you have your car, you are grandfathered under the old rules, you will be fine. anyone else that wants one will now have to pay higher prices for your now more limited and valuable car.
its a win for us if you ask me.
you are fine or so they say, but becareful... keep your papers in your car, dont be rude to the cops, make sure your car is fully compliant and you should be fine...
that said if a cop wants to be a real dick he could issue you a VI and if you cant get it inspected or the VI removed because you have your papers showing compliance and everything is still that way you could be up poop creek without a paddle...
there are a few websites that are Quebec founded you should check out... they are in www.ivoac.ca threads, as well as tons more info about the rules with imported vehicles lots of good connections with knowledgable people... on monday in Quebec City there is gonna be a huge meeting/protest outside of the SAAQ... if you can go you should... there are also talks of doing a 60kmh highway drive from QC - Montreal... and i imagine there will also be one from Montreal - QC... meet up in the middle and shut down the highway that will get the point across!!!

icky bicky published a study in May 2007:
"THE SAFETY OF RIGHT-HAND-DRIVE VEHICLES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA"
www.icbc.com/library/research_papers/right-hand-drive_vehicles/pdf/rhd_vehicle_safety_report.pdf
It might be worth a read although it involves a lot of nasty stats analysis.
some quotes:
"From the relative crash culpability risk analysis, the RHD vehicles had a 44% increased risk, compared to LHD vehicles, of crashing over a 4-year period (the average time from first policy date to data extraction).
For their first two years, the increased risk of culpable crash causation from the Poisson regression was 46% and, based on survival analysis, the average time to first culpable crash for the RHD vehicles was 223 days (68% sooner) when
compared to the time for the LHD vehicles which was 705 days."
"
On the other hand, there was no evidence to suggest that crashes involving the RHD
vehicles were any more severe than those involving LHD vehicles."
""...It is reasonable, from the results obtained in this study, to conclude that the important issue in BC with respect to imported RHD vehicles is driver performance as opposed to vehicle safety per se. Of course, the driver performance issue presumably results from the inappropriate configuration of the vehicle but there was no indication beyond this of sub-standard vehicle crash performance as reflected in higher claim severities. In other words, driver unfamiliarity with the RHD configuration coupled with operational or visibility problems associated with manoeuvring such vehicles in a right-side driving environment probably predisposes them to a higher-than-expected collision causation rate. And this increased risk appears to be substantial."
'of course' 'presumbly' the key word that jumps out above double speak negation filled clause ridden clatter is 'appears', and the bottom line is:
" ...more years of crash record than were available at the time the study was conducted would be necessary to explore this issue in a comprehensive manner. "
Seems to say they are still at it and will rear their heads when their data becomes scientifically valid with more 'n' collected over time. It may be awhile before they start to ban import of certain rhd jdm vehicles but there are rumors on some types jdm no longer to be allowed in BC.
It might be instructive to keep track of the bean counters etc.
The reference section of the icky bicky report seems a bit light but might be of use.
I hope the mass action goes well and it would be real trip, though i do not trust the 'press' to be garnered, nor the possible bad results. A cruise would be a moral builder but could generate lots of heat. Bad timing. Irrespective of safety issues imho the rhd issue would be spun to economic politics vis-a-vis where domestic auto job losses would play out.
Noticed anything "funny" with the exchange rates and parts prices lately:

gah what will all the mail cariers in my area do? they all drive HD in these rural parts! if they wer baned it would be a real PITA for them as well as uss
Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive
that ICBC study is B U L L S H I T !!!!!! over at www.ivoac.ca we applied for the raw data to that study under FOIP(freedom of information policy) got the data and found some VERY disturbing things 1) they used cars that were not yet 15yrs old 2) they used vehicles in more than 1 category
3) they used vehicles that were both RHD and LHD since at the time they did not take note of what the vehicles driver position was 4) the study doesnt make note of who was at fault 5) the study doesnt not take note of severity, only that a claim was made.... yup a claim... the icbc study was based on claim numbers not collision numbers... are you as a GTiR owner more likely to file a claim if someone opens there door to far, or a shopping cart hits your car? of course you are... in fact this very thing happened... a guy in victoria had his car in the study 3 times, all 3 times were claims not collisions, 2 of the claims were someone opening there door to far, the other time was a shopping cart hit the car and scratched some paint... so he claimed them... now if he had been in a 15yr old domestic do you think he would have claimed it? hell you think he would have even noticed? of course not the icbc study is more full of holes than swiss cheese, and even the author of the study wants nothing to do with it... japan the uk aus, and many other countries allow rhd and lhd to opperate on there roads with no restrictions, there road safety is light years ahead of ours...
the SAAQ recently did an in house study and from the rumors that leaked about it, they found RHD's to be less likely involved in a collision, but more likely to file a claim... this is prolly what prompted them to make such a ban, becuase it contradicts the ICBC study

anyways, if you've ever taken an intermediate level statistics class you would know statistics mean nothing. The way they are interpreted always comes with caveats and numbers can be presented in any way to provide backing for any argument.
much like the h1n1 flu going around, 15 cases in canada.. its an outbreak... it's only .0000005% of the Canadian population.
ever one who's apposed to this stupid new law should write there member of parliament and complain about how unjust the law is and remind them we live in a free country when something that involves such a large number of people should be voted on
