I don't mean to pry, but....
Hi everyone, I am kind of new to this site. I have been a member of GTRCanada.com for a year or so and currently own a 1992 Gts-t. I am very interested in purchasing a GTi-R as my next vehicle.
I imported my Skyline through Feast Auto Export (if anyone here knows of Adam) and would like to import a GTi-R myself as well. This may be a too personal question for some, but if you don't mind I was wondering what some of you paid to import your GTi-Rs. I paid just under $6500 all in for my Skyline, and want to know if it is going to be worth it to import another car or if I should buy one already landed. There were a few more costs associated like new tires, brakes, ball joints etc. And paying for the registration/inspection. But for just the car including shipping, customs, duty, and the tires/brakes etc. and the car it was under 7k.
The average price of a decent condition landed GTi-R from what I've seen is around $8,000. At the time when I bought my Skyline, Gts-t's were around $10,000 so I saved almost 4k.
Since GTi-R's are going for around 8k, can I expect to pay around $5,000 all in for a good, stock, nice conditioned car?
What were some of the FOB (free on board, so basically just the car itself) prices some of you paid?
The only problem I have with buying one landed, is that I have not found a single white, red or blue GTi-R for sale yet, and those are the only colors I'm considering.
If you don't want to have it public knowledge, you can PM me and I will keep it to myself.
Thanks alot,
Aaron

Also... :D If anyone in my area of Vancouver would like to take me for a spin some time, so I can really see what these cars can do before I buy one, that would be awesome. You can maybe take my car for a rip in return.
it's very hard to find them in any other colour than black so good luck, i had mine imported with 58k and a full history. i paid $7300 for mine landed with all fees etc and its in good shape but with like any other 17 year old car the rubber weather strips are pretty weathered. gtir's are becoming pretty scarce in japan and the prices are quite high (less that 15000 total cars produced). Good luck with your search.
im in vancouver (downtown), I could take you for a spin sometime next week. My car is fun but still need some tuning for better power so you will have to be nice to me... lol
pm me and I'll shoot you my number.
Sweet, that would be awesome.
As for color, my Skyline is black. I will never own another black car... ever. Basically I don't really care what color it is besides black. But white is the top of the list.
Thanks for the price irishjohn. That was the price range I was kind of expecting to hear. It will be a hard choice, because there are a few localish GTi-Rs that are in the $7500 range. If I go see them, and they are in good enough shape then I think it would be best to get it since I can actually do an inspection. Problem is, they are all black :(
i've got an ivory white one :D
mine came completely stock and i've changed quite a few things on it.
intake, divorced 3inch dp, test pipe, quiet fujitsubo exhaust, arc intercooler, mines ecu, .8bar, walbro fp. i havent had a chance to put on my greddy boost controller yet to run it at 1.1
whiteline rear sway bar, subframe align lock bushings, castor bushings, front lower control arm bushings, bumpsteer kit, strut bars,
11" 4piston wilwood kit
left hand drive headlights
it's got pep, but not the fastest thing out there. but i do drive mine daily without a single issue.
personally if i had to do it all over again, i would have got an s14, just kuz its far cheaper to mod, handles better, and easier to work on the motor.
I am with nick on this one. I would go with a S14. I got the GTI-R because I go to whistler almost every week and the 4wd is much better for me than rwd. I will give you a call after work today.
I have a Skyline. I don't want an s14. I want a gtir because they are different, everyone has 240s and Skylines. They are also AWD which helps in the snow.
yah good in the snow. just don't be disappointed that it doesn't rotate. be forewarned.
Lol, I've heard about the under steer problems. But I have a problem with cars, and that's is I spend way too much money on suspension. My Skyline has over the top suspension modifications and not really anything on the engine. It stays reliable that way. I'm sure I will be able to make the under steer better.
I've heard you can put in a 40/60 biased center diff, is this correct?
Yeah the S14 comment was more as in, its much easier to find and get parts for them. the gtir is a hard to maintain car but very unique indeed. :)
Btw, I have mine sideways many times in the snow and rain, you just have to keep the rev high and be a little dirty on it steering wise.
nismo mechanical centre diff is your only option, if you can find one and you need the different transfer case to gow ithit. and if you do it'll cost you a shitload. only a 50 50 split.
front diff options , modena torsen (handful available), nismo mechanical (far a few available left and you need the lsd axles), cusco ( cannot be found any longer), rear diff options are cusco and nismo (need the lsd specific axles) again hard to find nowadays.
I thought all Gti-r's are mechanical. They aren't the same as the GTR. The GTR has the Attesa ETS, and the GTi-R only the original Attesa.
Skylines are super easy to get parts for too, basically EVERYTHING crosses over with s13s, s14s or Z32s. RB's are easy to get parts for too, I buy most of my stuff from Jdm-speedshop.com. He sources lots of things for me, and he is in Japan so it helps a lot.
open front, viscous centre, viscous rear
driveline doesnt share anything with anything else
ahh, its a viscous center. Ok, So it can still somewhat bias torque but is quite in consistent if you have a worn out center. Do you know if the rear is an R200 pumpkin, and if so how many splines the output shafts have? I have an S15 Helical diff that needs 30 spline shafts to work. That would be awesome if I could make it work in a GTi-R.
I forget what pumpkin it is, but it isn't compatible with any other nissan.
The driveline is specific to the gti-r.
A lot of your questions can be answered by reading the FAQ over at www.gtiroc.com
cool, thanks for the link.
you could gut the center diff and replace it with a solid shaft for a constant 50/50 split..i plan to do this during my winter rebuild.
I was thinking about something like that. Or just weld the viscous closed.
