DOT lighting
So, I'm eyeballing a GTi-R that's out of province (*handwave*) and it's not DOT compliant.
Is it hard to get DOT lighting kits for GTi-Rs? Are they just happily DOT and I can go my merry way?
Is there a good place to even find weird parts like this in general?

It can be tricky. But if you get it safetied at the right place it wont really matter. Its a different story if you get pulled over on sunday cruise night though. And yes, proper e-code headlights are very hard to track down. I've been trying for 2 years.
you can order lights from any lhd country in Europe. any n14 Pulsar or Sunny. there very easy to find. i suggest Sweden thats where i had the least amount of hassle. Nissan In Stockholm were great.

Nissan of Stockholm... Mad props to your research sir! :D
Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive
i've got two pairs that were said to be lhd, which were not. I almost bought another from gtirus but i asked for a picture and they were infact still rhd ones. Right now i'm in the process of getting some from.. norway i believe.
Very cool!
So, headlights should be possible... what about signal and tail lights? If you get an inspector on a power trip they can even nail you on reverse and license plate lights (joy!).
Officially (at least in manitoba) _every_ light needs DOT marking on them.

Ok so here is a pic of the ones i got from europe. as long as you have E Code Headlight your ok. And if i remember correctly the taillights on my car also have ecode markings. ECODE Is just as good as DOT. It Will Pass with the E Code markings as they are for lhd roads. DOT is actually us and not Canadian. the cars that come to north america have DOT markings because the states requires it we get the same markings by default. Also i did another thread that tells you how to use 1988-1989 Mazda 323 headlights in place of LHD pulsar lights. They fit very well and the modding is very easy and they fit very well and will pass any Canadian inspection.

you will have to modify your 323 metal mounting bracket to make it work with the Pulsar but it only takes an hour or so to do it. Also you will want to get the 9004 headlight plug pigtail and some spade connectors to plug into the Pulsar H4 headlight socket. Very easy. If you need the Pics of the modified housing i can dig out the headlights and snap a couple a pics off for you. If i can find the box i might also have the TYC part number for LHD lights. Im not sure tho. Hope this helps. The important part in this pic is the E3 in the circle you need that there to prove there for LHD

Here's a pic of the LHD headlight labels with the part number from TYC.

My price was under $190 total via a Joshua at DJ Auto in west edmonton last year. It took a few weeks to get it in.
Noticed anything "funny" with the exchange rates and parts prices lately:

Nicely done. Now he has all the info he needs. Good job
So just to clarify, headlights are the only lights I need to worry about? Signal lights and tail lights have the proper stampings?
no_boost - that's awesome. Thanks!

If you need to fit some daytime running lights in your locale, here's a net pic of how fog lights were set up and DRL might be similarly fitted.

My car had red reflectors on the back bumper too but depending where you're at that may vary.

I have e-code right now. they are e13.... which is a lhd country, but if you look at the beam pattern its the same as rhd. its the beam pattern that would really matter when push comes to shove realistically, especially in winnipeg with these retarded random inspections. So e-code or not, you need to look at the design of the headlight because some e-code still have two beams pointing up and to the left (blinding oncoming traffic in canada), which is what my E13's do.
Looks awesome i wish i could put em sadly i have a HUGE FMIC so cant. :(
http://www.canadagtir.com/forums/canada-gtir/members-cars/my-r-story The comparision is in here. The ones on the bottom are the design you want. Mine have the same beam pattern as the top, even though they say E13.
the TYC part numbers above on the box pic comes is also the E13.
Depending where i looked that designation appears to be either for Luxembourg in Europe or South East Asia according to another source. I figure given the origin of the bulbs the latter.
I didn't realize the aiming problem specific to these E13 euro lights, thanks. Here's a link from the year 1994 with instructions of how to aim european headlamps so not to blind:

nb: The part about big rig truckers is real. ;)
I wonder if this is why 'eyebrows' for headlights were used originally and if a piece of tape or paint would help, though inspections may disapprove.
Twisting the bulb around could be dodgy.
