Car you ride with and how the GTIR stand?

From my experience as a sprinted driver and with our car, I was wondering what kind of car you got to test the water against?
How did your gtir stood up against them?

No need for much details to be posted but some general ideas if you care to share!

I am wanting to take my car to the track but I am a bit scared due to the glue and launching... Our cars aren't known for having a bullet proof gearbox to say the least.

I tested against a few cars so far...

BMW Z4 3.0 manual vs GTIR @15psi I win in ~1/4

Ferrari 360 vs GTIR @15psi I still got it in 3rd

NOTAVW GTIR 1bar loop vs my GTIR stock he ate me alive...

what about you guys?

lol I forgot this yellow snutty porshe convertible with huge spoiler and GT3 sticker on the side and cheap ass sounding exhaust on the highway and how I totally played with him like a tiger with a mouse... omg that was the most priceless testing ever... especially since he had a Uber hot bimbo with him and couldnt even match to play... Vancouver guys I am sure you saw that guy!

335i coupe with dinan chip, i had him to 210, then he pulled on me.
mercedes clk430 - quick for a sedan but definitely a little slower (sea to sky)
vw phaeton - quick for a sedan but definitely a little slower (sea to sky)
sti with exhaust and cobb flash - after about 180 he started to pull on me
fc rx7 t2 not a chance

mines chip, 1 bar, am performance downpipe, test pipe, arc top mount, 2.25 inch exhaust ( im thinking i'd have much larger gains if i had a 3inch, but i like it quiet), oem maf, oem injectors, my injectors are at 100% duty cycle

You know the 2009 Subaru WRX's on the commercials that claim to have like 260hp. Well this guy had at least an exhaust on his. I pulled him in 4th to 5th and stayed in front of him 1 to 2 car lengths the whole time. Stock boost.

flat engine, more stout tranny/drivetrain, side impact beams, tougher crash protection laws, airbags galore... it adds up

we have a shitty drivetrain made of tin foil,
no side impact beams at least on my doors
no airbags
2 less doors
and i wouldnt fair as well in a crash..

so its reasonable to see where the 500lbs comes from

Also take in account most of us run smaller/lighter wheels diameter so there is less spinning weight which help a lot with accelleration.

Only car I had some fun with thus far was a stock-looking Audi S3 hatch. I'm basically bone stock (no performance-improving mods). We both rolled into it from a dead stop, then kept the throttle down after that. It was fairly close through first gear, then I hit second and jumped almost a car in front of him. From that point I just kept pulling away until he gave up.

It felt reeealy good. :D

Porsche GT3
Porsche Caymen with GT2 Engine and Cage
Porsche 997
BMW Z4 M Roadster
New GTR
Multiple M3's
Multiple STI's
Evo 9 MR
Corvette ZR1
Acura NSX
Honda S2000
Austin Martin Vantage
etc.
All at Time Attack or Autocross events...I have set the FTD in my R twice already this year at Auto-x.
That said it is also rare to have someone who owns one of the aforementioned supercars (Porsche and Austin Martin) who is also a good driver and willing to push it. Auto-x does have some amazing drivers in fast cars though...but the R is still hard to beat.

I do not street race at all anymore...there are far to many idiots on the road to risk it.

My Car is currently:
CalumSult ECU at 1.2 Bar (similar to my Fields ECU)
Full 3" Exhaust
FMIC
Walbro
Nismo FPR
KSport Series RR Coilovers (9kg front 8KG rear)
Wilwood 11.75 Brakes
JWT Organic/Ceramic Race Clutch
215/45/16 Kuhmo V710 R Compounds

Modform, I know what you mean about street racing. That is why I see it more as a pull test for fun than a real formal race, there is lot of places where its more acceptable to do so... populated area and public road with trafic are not places for racing. For example, NOTAVW and I raced in a ski resort parking lot in summer time. Its all about common sense!

BTW, I love your "kill list"!

I have to help a friend move early saturday and might go to the beach on sunday, PM me and I'll give you my cell number. I live right downtown Vancouver.

Ya...totally true. I can't resist the odd light-to-light either...although my exhaust is so loud now that it is a total heat score!

I am sure with the right drivers and setup a lot of those cars would be hard to beat...but so far the R is a serious contender!

I have zero mods except 2.5 cat-back (for what its worth). -stomped ion redline from a stand, and 60km pull. just to test i started an 80 km/h pull from 4th gear and stayed right with him. -some mercedes thing with a punk and his girl. -stock srt-4, extremely close, i'd call it a tie. 300zx, g35.

there's quite a range of cars beaten here.. and not much difference in mods

well, like modform says, its a combination of man and machine. driver's knowledge and car and willingnes to push it...

Posted: Fri, 05/29/2009 - 8:23pm

not just that, everyone's got a different setup, class, tire, brakes.. just kuz its an exotic doesn't mean its oem tires and brakes will hold up lap after lap like a r compound tire and race pad.

plus controlling 4-500hp out of the rear wheels is a totally different experience than in an awd machine.

furthermore, driver experience makes up the most difference. if modform's been on track for years n years he'll destroy most cars on an autox course no matter what car it is. a newbie in a porsche will be slower than me in a 105hp d16 civic around an autox track i guarantee it.

There is almost 100hp in a 2650lb car difference between a virtually stock GTIR and a car at 1.2 bar...seems like a lot to me.

now take a gtir to the track and see it eat the other cars in a curcuit race lol
