Auto-X 2010

So i went to my first ever autocross event today, and wow is it ever fun. I did half decent i thought, considering i've never done one before and all i have for handling is the lowering springs and a front strut bar.

The red escort is my brother's car. His fastest time was 32.45 about, and mine was 34.84. The fast time of the day i believe was just under 29, and that was a crazy porche. Here's the youtube video of my fastest run, i think i could've gotten into the 32's if i had a few more runs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHhfPpwdivA

Right on Ryan, great to see the gtir in action. Looks to be a perfect day for some driving fun; practice makes perfect, enjoy! :)

Awesome, Ryan. Was it held at the Red River Ex grounds? I used to Auto-x my 2000 Miata there for a couple of seasons, then 1 event in my RX-8. Great fun. Are they offering the "lessons" again this year? If they are, I would highly recommend taking them. Not only did I learn a lot about properly entering / apexing/ exiting particular turns, but you basically get to race around an auto-X track loaded with all kinds of different challenges, all day long!

This was in the Springs church parking lot. It was part of the father's day weekend thing. And they didnt have the lessons, but im thinking about taking the driving school up at gimli.

If you can get in at gimli on any of the courses involving getting a competition license with the WCMA [you don't have to race afterwards and you use your streetcar!] it's well worth it if possible. As well, the courses through various car clubs [ie. bmw] are really great too and might draw on a lot of the skill sets taught at the wcma competition course.
fwiw: I'm not sure about gimli but the active runways at nameo are texturized with very abrasive grit for safe landings, however, tires get chewed v bad, so one might throw on a set of used tires to destroy over a couple of days vs. the expensive skins. !
