Clutch messed up?

Alright so here's the story. I was driving my car a few weeks ago, and as i was backing out of the driveway i noticed a huge puddle of fluid. I'm a punk kid and i was on my way to university so of course i don't stop to check it out. As i was driving i noticed that the clutch was acting up... its stuck sometimes, and ingaged almost on the floor. but i managed to make it to my destination. Now, when i went to drive home my clutch was bunk. It wouldnt even engage on any gear, when i put the peddle to the floor it wouldnt come back up, so i had to tow it home....

So then, finally today (about 3 weeks later) i finally got around to doing something with my car, i was sick of driving automatic left hand drive vehicles. I was looking for any splits in lines or anything, but i couldnt find any line messed up. So i used that little bleed valve, and topped the resevoir up, and the clutch was good to go, just like that.

Turns out the fluid on the driveway was coolant, my rad hose is split. So, my question is, what the crap was wrong with my clutch? Could it have been frozen or had some condensation or something? or just had some air right in a funny spot? Or does the car have some sensor that doesnt let you shift into gear when it reads the coolant being low?(thats stretching it, i'm just kinda confused).

Go to town, nick.

slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder is going or the clutch line or the reservoir rubber line is leaking.

No fluid leaks though, that i can find at least... Nothing down by the pedals, so would that probably be the slave then?

check around the slave cyider and see if the metal looks darker or moist... if the fluid seeps out slow it wont puddle. mes with it when the car is cold pump the clutch a bunch and look for more signs of a leak,, the fluid won't be as likely to run thin and go un detected

where exactly is the slave cylinder?

EDIT** I found it, gtir workshop manual is very handy..

The problem with that is that i already bled it. and didnt have a hose running from it, just a rag, so i already dumped a bunch of fluid all over.

Wipe the area clean and watch it closely. My slave cylinder has a slight leak as well, I believe it's the same slave cylinder as a Maxima? Mine's been leaking very slowly (I add fluid to the tiny reservoir about once every two weeks), but I'm going to be replacing it this spring, so maybe we can find a deal for 2, Ryan! :-p I was thinking about asking Jackson Auto to source one...

Pump should be here by ~Apr. 17th, next week I'm going to throw on my 16" 5zigen FN01R-C rims with G-Force tires, so it should definitely snow...... but once that melts we can go cruisin'.

*Edit* Sorry for pirating the thread.

HA! Ironically I was reading this thread. I went to go take my car for a boot and my slave cylinder poped in my driveway... no Nissan dealer in Canada has a rebuild kit.. $18 from over night parts from japan lol

can any one confirm the cross reference from a maxima?

Just an FYI

I ordered the slave cylinder repair kit as listed above and it's got too small of a diameter for the the slave on my car... dunno if it's the stock slave or not... does any one know if there salve is a NABCO 3/4 inch slave? or have pics of there's

ok let me re phrase this.. I didn't know if my car had the stock slave cylinder installed... turns out it does... but that being said either the wrong parts came in the box or it's the wrong part #

the PDF parts manual linked too on this site shows the piston/seal/spring assembly number to be 30620L

but judging by the above link the 3/4 nabco piston is shared by a few Z cars.. my freind has his 300ZX ripped apart right now so im goiing to go and pull his slave off the tranny stand snd see if i can't swap pistons.. and then posibly find a better source for these parts

So im going to bump up this old thread just incase anyone runs into troubles with the clutch slave cylinder. I went with the OEM kit Nick posted up top of this thread, however   you can use DORMAN part number CSK351038. Quick google search of the part number shows that prices range from $6-$9.  Our 3/4" bore size cross references with alot of different NISSANS and Honda's from the 70's on up to the late 90's. Rebulding a Slave cylinder is a piece of cake. and took less then 30 mins including taking it off, rebuilding it, reinstalling it, and bleeding new dot3 fluid thru the lines.

You can buy them on eBay. Buy them from hose solutions out of the UK. Expensive but stainless steel braided with Teflon inner line and fits right in.
