Blower motor fixed..

So, it seems to be a sonewhat common issue that the blower motor goes from a 3 speed fan with auto, to an ON/OFF fan. I found a solution over on the other forums and thought I'd post up this quick fix.

Turns out the problem is in the resistor card for the blower fan. It's a reasonably easy DIY, if you can solder. Steps as follows:

1- Pull out resistor chip, it is located in the blower assembly behind and below the glove box. 2, 8mm hex head screws hold it in place. (I checked over the connections with a multimeter. There should be continuity between each of the 4 terminals at varying resistances, mine only had 1 good trace, resulting in only having fan level 3 work)

2- Clean'er up, it gets dusty in there.

3- Using a very small drill bit, drill the flared edges enough to remove the shields over the existing solder. Pry off the shields to uncover the 2 solder blobs.

4- Clean again. I used the soldering gun to remove the old solder blobs.

5- Now, solder a new blob between traces that lead to the old blobs, there was no "resistor" under the solder. It's simply the length and width of the traces that varies the resistance.

6- Reassemble the shields using either epoxy, or a dab of RTV, and re-install the chip. Test.

Mine now works in all settings, including the Auto setting!!!

(I'll be doing this again with the other car, so I'll submit pics then)

It should fix your up too thoroxin.

I'll see how long this lasts nick, it is touchy to get the solder to stick to the traces for sure..

I went from a 530WHP GTR to a 220HP GTi-R, but I'm still smiling....

For anyone who is having this issue:

I just ordered part number 27150-62J60 from my local Nissan dealer here in the US and it resolved the issue. The actual circuit board was significantly smaller, but the mounting points and connector were the same. I'm sure it is just an updated part number. Cost was about $20 US dollars.

I believe the reason why the highest fan speed works is that there is no resistor that can burn out. This is typical of Nissan.

Does anybody know how to fix the interior blower/fan from rattling? Mine sounds like it has a blown bearing or uneven weight distribution from dust, etc.

Any ideas?
