Anyone replaced their battery yet?

So I am in need of a battery for my Pulsar... I know a group 151R for a 2007-2009 Honda Fit will work, only place I have found one is the Honda dealer. They want upwards of $160.00 with tax. No I do not want to trunk mount the battery, neither do I want to cut off the terminals and butcher some n/a ones on there. Someone in the GTA has to have sourced out a proper fitting battery? Thanks for any info guys!

I'm replacing mine right now, actually.
The fit is the same size - correct, however the North American fit uses SAE terminal posts; of course, not JIS.

Anyways, just across the boarder, Honda fit batteries sell for 88.99$ at the Honda dealer, depending where you live it might be worth the drive.

regardless of what you get, you'll have to replace your terminal wiring to match the posts - or just swap out the ends.

If you only power your car for "turn-ons" and don't use any auxiliary equipment (stereo)  then the Odessey PC680 is one of the best batteries on the entire market, no argument. It's Dry cell, SMALLER then your current battery, and holds 3x the charge - however I believe it lacks deep cycling (fast recharge) like standard lead-acid. On that note, it does indeed use JIS and SAE terminal posts, so no need to swap wiring.

personally i'd use the Fit battery for everyday use.

I replaced mine in the spring. The jdm batteries are smaller than what north american cars typically use and I gave up on finding a perfect match. I got mine from costco but can't remember what I paid. The smallest size they had was the same height and width as the original but it was a little bit longer. The bracket to hold it down fit but the stock battery holder was too small so I took it out and just put some foam underneath the battery. Stays put, no issues and I guess I can tell myself its an upgrade ;)

Trying to not bite the bullet and pay $160 for the Fit battery... was just in Detroit for the autoshow, but didn't know that they were only $89 until today. Have a battery on hold in Barrie but by the time I drive up there I might as well buy the Honda one. I have been told japanese lawn tractors have the same terminals but... no luck so far. Tried every car jobber in town, no aftermarket Fit batteries listed at any of them.

just replace the terminal's, its like 10$ at can tire

as for batteries, i'm using an odyssey pc925t, you'll need shorter battery holder J bolts like 5$ at lordco

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc925t.htm  this battery is a tiny bit smaller than oem, i picked mine up for around 180$ locally in the vancouver area, try polar battery or battery direct in burnaby

i have had it mounted in engine bay and now in the trunk, its dry cell and fire's just as good in cold weather, unlike the lightweight 680.  i'd rather have my car start than save 10 lbs..

i have a similar set up as this http://www.sr20forum.com/technical-information-library/143515-battery-relocation-writeup.html
except instead of the power concentration block, i have another 150amp circuit in front and one in the rear.
i use the knuconceptz 0 gauge, 2 150 amp circuit breakers, a bunch of ring terminals, 0, 2, 4, 8 gauge.  I mounted the factory tray in the rear, with shorter J terminals.

with the battery in the rear makes the front end nice and light and responsive.

have had this battery since June of 2009 and no issues to date, fires quickly and strongly.

If I am gonna hack the terminals(I have a couple nice sets of sae terminals-that's not the issue) I will just go with a group 51R Energizer from Wal-mart $87.00 650cca, 3/10year warranty, and call it a day.It doubles the power of an ns-40 jis battery anyday. It's just nice to open the hood and still have that jdm look right down to the battery still. My car still has the original Panasonic battery, and only gives me a hard time on a really cold Ontario day. My trunk nicely fits my spare and my stereo and that's it, so trunk mount is not on my options list. I have found places in my area that can get me an ns-40 battery, but they are killing me on the mark up. I am going to the source tomorrow on my lunch to try and get a more reasonable deal.If it's any more than a hundred bucks... Wal-mart here I come.lol

fatee, the Honda Fit battery at my local Honda dealer did in fact have the jis terminals, but they wanted $140 plus tax and it's 350cca at best... just can't help but weigh that in to my decision. A battery that is this common in the rest of the world can't be this hard to find and end up being twice the price of a normal car battery. I have an accessory battery for a prius but it is not a starting type battery, but does in fact have the jis terminals still.lol.If I spend the dough on the odyssey, they have screw in jis terminals for about $12pr. don't know where to get them round here though so gotta do some more digging...

Wait...I don't get it. You specify that you want that "JDM" look when you pop the hood, but won't pay an extra $50 for it?

You gotta pay to play bro. Got to Walmart and get a battery and be done with it.

For our cars, rear mount is where it's at anyway. Anything to help that horrible weight distribution.

You do not have to pay someone who is charging twice what the battery is worth though. I went today to a long time battery supply in Hamilton,On. Acme battery co. (a 15min drive from my work on a tip from an ol lot guy). The battery which is the actual correct battery size ns-40 with the correct jis terminals. 78$ Tax... They are also an Odyssey dealer, and he carries pc680 and has screw in jis terminals for them. I may just go get one anyways... It has nothing to do with being cheap, just not going to pay someone double what it's worth for a little research and effort.

hey shoulda stopped buy for a beer on your way to the auto show.....   any how I know you want the JDM look but I relocated mine to the trunk.. I used a moroso battery box and moroso shut off switch.  I ran 4aug welding wire (much cheaper than "battery wire" from a parts store..  cost about $200,,, but it's track legal and safe.

as far as lawn mower battery s go there an excellent choice!!!  There really vibration resistant small and cheap!  I wanted a sealed battery for piece of mind so I got an odyssey,,,  this was of course when money grew on trees I guess ;)

as far as the JDM terminal size... cant you unscrew the old terminals off and swap them onto a new battery?,,, or am I dreaming?

Mine isn't bigger than yours.. I just like to drive

Hey Zed, terminals are fixed into battery... Unless you get an Odyssey(like you have), then you have to screw them in. Thanks for the beer offer, maybe next time!Car is starting great today and no "butchery" needed, straight up swap. Lynx... No Wal-mart here dude, and you don't have to pay to play, you just have to know when someone is trying to take you for a ride. The people who gave me the prices on the ns-40 battery were calling the battery supply place I went to, and then doubling the price. I know even you would not give someone 40 dollars if you only owed them 20? I saved 500$ on the ACT Clutch and Fidanza flywheel I just put in a few weeks back, just by spending the time to source from the right place. If I had of been cheap... I would have put in an Exedy and machined the flywheel "and been done with it..."

Just did the easiest battery swap ever. I just put a brand new alternator on my car, and I wanted to change the battery to a proper one that I KNOW would start the car on those freezing mornings without problems.

Parts needed:

1 x Non spillable spiral cell battery 850/750 CA/CCA- $200.00
1 x Nissan NX-2000 battery tray - next to nothing at the junkyard... we'll say $10.00

and............. that's it!

The nx tray bolts right on with no modding required. I bent the stock terminals around the USDM posts, and tightened the bolts. You could spend as little as 100 bucks doing this conversion, and it looks factory.

Eventually I'm going to make a tray for the rear, but until then I want the extra juice.

PC if anyone wants a used JIS terminaled battery that still holds a charge and is refillable, (and is JDM with Japanese and all) Swing by London and you can have it for a 10 spot.

That's an awesome idea with the battery tray man! Can you post a pic of how the terminals look on the sae posts?

Are the M6 Stud Terminal the same Japanese industrial standards terminals? (Sorry if this is bunched up, it doesnt seem to let me carriage return with enter/ enter+shift) Do you have any idea of the specs of OEM batteries? I noticed that the ER30 (http://www.odysseybatteries.com/applications/racing.htm) Battery has similar specs to the battery you have albeit abit lighter and more powerful. The thing is though, it has different terminals and a different dimension albeit my setup will be relocated to the "trunk" assuming I keep the rear seats & carpeting.

Sorry to raise an old thread, but did anyone get pictures of what the original terminal look like when fit to SAE posts?  Time for me to replace the battery and considering my options.  Thanks!
