I picked up a 1990 nissan pulsar gtir little over 2 months ago, i use it as a daily driver for now... hah. but i just recently broke 5th gear. i pulled it out of 5th before i pushed in the clutch and there was a loud bang and since then it wont stay in 5th unless i hold it there. the people that ive talked to told me i bent a shift fork. ive found a tranny for sale in calgary for $900 (good price?) and i just need to decied if i want to put it in my self (ive never taken an motor out or anything like this before.... so i doubt it) or have a shop do it.
any one else with a GTIR in Calgary? i live in airdrie and work in calgary.

900$ for a tranny is a ripoff ... do not buy at this price !
I've pulled the trans out of mine 4 times now its a pain in the ass to do with the engine in the car still but doable. If you do it and want to save yourself a lot of time just pull the whole motor with trans out then split them apart. Before I worked on cars I brought the car in for a new clutch and every shop quoted me at least 10-16 hrs labour time. Then I found a shop that quoted me for 5 hours. They ended up spending 21 hours to do it.
how is that a rip off? it seems alright seeing as theres hardly any of these cars left.
its the first time ive done anything that big so ill most likely just take the motor out with it and do it that way. gives me a chance to clean the motor bay.
Any pulsar owners in Calgary or alberta care to meet up some time??
