RB26DETT into Pulsar

Hi, my names Tim and Im new to the forum. I've been thinking about this process for a good bit of time. Would it be possible to throw the rb26dett motor into the pulsar? I do realize the cost of the engine and transmission and everything but would it bolt up to the AWD system in the Pulsar? They both use the same driveline in terms of the actual AWD system. I was just hoping for some input on it, thanks.

they use different attessa's. and the set up is completely different. the pulsar uses a FWD engine set up where the gtr uses the RWD set up. sure you could make it fit but why bother. you'd have to cut the body to fit the tranny (there massive, i've owned a gtr for years so have fun lol) it just doesn't seem worth it. i sold my gtr to fund the pulsar and i plan on makin WAY more power with the sr20 then i'd even dream to make with the rb26 (money vs hp its for a show factor) the gtr costs a good 10 grand to make anywhere close to 400-500 reliable where the pulsar you could make that power with 5k. if you really want that motor in the car then get out the mini grinder and remember the first cut is the hardest and it will get easier after that. good luck

Not going to happen.

RB26 has the front diff housing built into the oil pan. Top to bottom, I'd say the 26 is nearly a half foot taller. I've measured the Pulsar's engine bay, front to back (as it has to be installed longitudinally as the diff runs transverse) it'll fit if you move the rad to the trunk. But, there is no way to attache the trans, as the firewall is near vertical in the GTi-R. The GTR transmission is about 3'long. With the 26 in place, the shifter lever, which hangs off the back of the transmission, would be just behind the arm rest in the GTi-R. Also, you'd need to get, and wire in the Atessa ECU (it's in the trunk on a GTR), the lines and pump, and the fluid reservoir so the AWD would work. That being said, the front axles fit the GTR in the same way as the GTi-R, so you could make Hibrid axles I would say.

Now, for the power stuff. I made 532WHP in my GTR. It cost well over 10 grand to build that. I put over 25 Grand into the engine alone, and it still met it's demise. One of our clients (and a good friend of mine) made just over 520RWHP on a SR20det powered 240. Gt35, 2.2l Crower stroker, nice header, Autronic.

So if it's power your after, build a killer AWD SR. If your after a show/Magazine car, that probably won't run, go for the RB swap!

I went from a 530WHP GTR to a 220HP GTi-R, but I'm still smiling....

Thanks a lot, your guys' input was really helpful. And to answer your question Im looking for more of an AWD killer :) lol. May I ask if its alright, after 25 grand how did your engine "still meet its demise"?

Pounded out a rod bearing. Had ACL race bearings, within the right specs. But I got power hungry and played with the boost control.

I've taken out rebuilt and installed an RB26 into a GTR.. ya that wasn't easy! but putting it into the pulsar?... I know of a guy doing an RB26 swap and R32 drive line into a 240.. I've seen it... he's cutting the front end of the 240 and swapping the entire sub frame... if you'r a skilled fabricator the sky's the limit...

currently were working on putting a T56 into an R32 while retaining AWD.. lol it's all possible.

you might want to try some of the Norwegian sites.. theyr nuts.. if it's been done.. it's been done in Norway!

That was an amazing read about the Norwegians in 0-60. CRAZY.

26 in the 240 is an easy swap, keeping the AWD is quite the endeavor!!

The Pulsar is just not feasible for the 26.

This is the most retarted thread i have ever read!!! Have you ever seen how long the RB W/tranny is,if u put the RB26 w/tranny next to the GTir,and put the front of the RB say 4 inches back from the rad support.Piston 5 and 6 will be in the area of the gear shit, the end of the tranny will be at the area where the back seat ends and the hatch begins
